Numbe... moreI feel like lg made a lot of interesting devices, sort of like sony, but it was still lacking something most people wanted.
In lg case, their phones felt a lot more futuristic. It's just like they had no idea how to make money using those features.
Removable batteries would be now ahead of its time for eu market, so would foldable screen case (or second screen then), smaller second screen is now also used a lot,...
Similar to sony, if they found a way to persist, they could have a comeback even now, considering their last concept.

Number of devices sold do not translate into money enough to pay costs.
LG is gone, while Asus, Sony Meizu and even HTC are still here.

... moreYou can't win with the masses. I still get surprised looks on the dual screen LGs and say they're shocked something like it exists.
But these people will continue to buy slabs like iPhone, even on credit, because their fave celebrity or influencer is using it.

blue, 06 Aug 2023So why is LG a dead brand? Because unique was not successful. Even if you set the bootloop incident aside, they are bad st marketing. LG Korea never sold the V60 and cheaped out with the Velvet. They never promoted the dual screen that much nor the stylus. What they kept showing was the multi color glass backs complete with fashion models on a ramp.
Just like Lenovo not telling everyone that the Y700 old model was updated to support Precision pen stylus.

Sony could introduce gaming phone but even better would be gaming foldable or camera centric foldable, still plenty of space on those 2 fronts.
If they went all out and created new device at the lvl of PS1, it would be without competition. Though it would need to be stylish, mobile(as in light and 5G) and with enough of usage options as a phone, AR, VR, vlogging, maybe even add something on top like heart rate sensor etc.
There are plenty of AR/VR devices right now, point is to have it advertised and useful enough.
If you won't need to buy a phone but headset instead, it makes it cheaper about as much as you would pay for a phone. And don't say that adding phone features to a helmet sized device is hard.
Its just a wonder still nobody done this.
Actually I was expecting Microsoft to do something, but they went down in mobile market and did some pro centric thing instead.
Do they still have guts to do something new tho...

Mediatek sux, 06 Aug 2023Samsung copied foldables from this, sony always best. Truly... moreThe screen doesn't fold. Samsung was showing a display that could fold like paper back in CES 2011. It's the on YouTube. They have been developing foldable screens since 2008.
If you want to go here, Sony copied a lot from Nintendo -
L/R shoulder buttons
Analog control
Rumble
Totaku toys = Amiibo rip-off
Classic mini consoles
PlayStation All-Star Battle Royale = Smash Bros. rip-off
Crash Team Racing = Mario Kart rip-off
WipeOut = F-Zero rip-off
PlayStation Move = Wiimote
Now I love my Sony products. I have a modded PSP 2K, modded Vita 2K, and WH-1001XM4s I'll use weekly. I've been with the PlayStation family for 27 years. My Vita is over 6-years-old and battery healthy is still over 90%. My PSP still works great and it's a model from 2007. I just bought a new battery for it and it lasts like 16 years ago. But I will acknowledge that they have copied Nintendo repeatedly.
Kyocera had the first dual-screen phone (excluding flip phones with tiny screens outside) back in 2011 with the Kyocera Echo Not LG. And LG ripped off double tap to wake from Nokia. Everyone copies everyone which includes Apple copying things from Android. Why do people insist pitting one over the other? Boredom? Makes you feel better? They're just products. We can enjoy them all.
Sony needs to give us a successor to the PS Vita or at least another Xperia Play. That Project Q looks lame.

The OEMs were trying, but Google didn't care. Android tablets were left to cheap throwaways. No consumers would want to spend a lot of money on an Android tablet with clunky software when $500 could get you an iPad.

PhoneFreak45, 06 Aug 2023That's a subject number. The amount of your field of v... moreTablet is not just to watch video.
Tablet cannot have a 10-12cm tall screen.
Ipad mini and those 8" from samsung are very bad to use for other activities.
Mine is 9,7" , split screen is crap and not worth (dont wven know why ppl want this function on phones).
Tablet good enough for all purposes need to have s reen at least 3x larger than phones.
At 21:9 , device would be too large.
As said before, wider than laptop.
Anyway, sony is done with tablets. Market has gone down again since covid vaccine became mainstream.
Sadly, because Z4T was best tablet of its time. Same device with just updated SoC/storage/ram would still be far better than most.
Sony will not sell any device unless they are 1000% sure they can get the amount of profits they want.
There are few xperia canceled over the past few years. Some were even better than few other that made to the market.

Far better look than most tablets of today.
Only tab extreme by Lenovo looks a lot differently and unique in its own way.
And maybe Oukitel RT2 with its 20 000 mAh cell.
Othervise not much to say.

Point is, ppl complain nobody does " something new", but same ppl are not willing to pay what this "something new " would cost.
Same ppl want "something new" done by anyone while still costing less than iphones and galaxy, like any brand had obligation to do this.
Same ppl complain samsung and apple do not do anything new but find excuses to say both deserve to be more expensive.
My favorite excuse is when ppl call these two premium brands. If they were any premium: 1) both would not make products that even high midclass could afford.
2) no poor ppl would have their stuff , many do.
Someone has to be very 🧠 damaged to compare Apple and Samsung with Rolex, Ferrari and other fancy brands.

The amount of your field of view the screen takes up matters far more, and everyone holds devices a different distance from their face, it's why you can still have a good media experience on a phone.

PhoneFreak45, 06 Aug 2023I don't know why it matters also you ever heard of a m... more🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️
Tablet large enough for proper media experience cannot have screen smaller than 15cm in landscape mode. Ipad 9,7" screen is 15,5cm.
Since you want a 21:9 ratio, then let's consider 18cm which is 2x9. This way we would have 42cm wide. 42 x 18 is 21:9 ratio.
Considering bezels (top/bottom) of the device as same of xperia 1v, then you add 6,5mm more on each side.
Tablet would have 43,3cm x 19,3cm. Just for you to have idea, the new Galaxy Tab S9 Ultra is 32,6cm wide (landscape mode).
My dell 💻 with 15,6" is 35,5 cm wide.
