The truth is, these corporations could easy fit 512 GB as the base storage for a $1000 phone. The material cost from 128 GB to 256 GB to 512 GB is pennies (okay, probably more like dollars) yet manufacturers charge $100 and more to move between these storage tiers. We don't need slow microSD as a replacement anymore. 512 GB to 1 TB could be a $50 upgrade, then 1 TB to 2 TB a $100 upgrade. Everybody would be happy.

I believe it is overkill for now. Most of the people have less capacity on their PC, and a PC is still more usable, you can do more with a PC then you can do with a phone. It will take years till phones will catch up with computers.

Apple Rules, 07 Aug 2023Where do you live? in Europe it costs 128gb, 1200€ ...pro max Developed nations pay much less compared to 3rd world for same products, despite fact many of these products are made in Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia , India and China.
And no, taxes are nowhere responsible for these differences.

But to some, $1399 xperia that comes with earbuds or headphones that are worth more than $200 are too expensive.

So far probably the majority of iphone users have not had issues that 64GB storage is too low and be using there phone still for 5 years. The majority of people wont have problems anyways in storage in long term. They use there cloud storage and so on as they dont care. They have the mentality of take my money on everything apple do anyways
