Sony quarterly report reveals strong PS5 sales, mobile phones in decline

This shows Sony actually increase market share from 5% to 6%, it's Sharp who are the big losers. Big gains for Google. Apple absolutely dominant.

I use to only buy LG phones since they were one of the rare companies still using headphone jacks and microSD card slots on their phones. My LGV60 was finally starting to really show its age so I thought I'd give this a try.

        After owning the 1 IV, I'm honestly not surprised Sony mobile phones are in decline. If it wasn't for the headphone jack and SD card slot I would get rid of this phone in a heartbeat. Everything about it feels average at best. Processor performance dips so hard that the phone stutters once it heats up even a little bit. The cameras are mediocre at best and in order to get a decent shot you have to use manual mode...No one has time to play around with manual mode on a phone. If I wanted to do manual photos I'd just use my DSLR. The rubber gasket on the micro SD card slot is falling apart already and I only take it out maybe once a week to do backups of the data. The display is really dim, like unusable in sunlight dim. And if the phone is hot (which is almost all the time due to what I imagine to be very poor cooling) the display basically goes black. This phone wasn't cheap either which is really disappointing.

          Spider man 2 is a first party game. Sony acquired Insomniac Games in 2019 ;D

            I was a Sony fan before. But their devices getting to expensive. And I dont realy like the long display format 21:9
            Short software support also around 2 year.
            So I changed to Google Pixel.

Only poor people want those features and they aren't going out of their way to overpay for a Sony phone

Only Samsung can be equal to this complexity, others always miss something.

If I am wrong, I would gladly see your source. Sony phones are made in Thailand(maybe only those which are for Japan are actually made in Japan). On the other hand Kyocera is actually made in Japan, but they make only durable phones.

                    I would support Sony Xperia till the end keeping the latest one for a very long time. I am delighted with my Xperia 1 V. The 5 V is coming out this fall. But it is possible that either the Ace IV or the Pro-I II will be cancelled. I hope the Pro-I II will have a bigger screen than the 1.

The chipset is still plenty powerful for most people, especially if you have 12GB RAM on board. Also, flagship phones are easily usable for five to six years time.

                        Ngl Sony is the only company left that still makes Phone with every features available in the market. If they end up like Lg or Htc, that would a big heartbreak for us. Their prices are high, true, but also they're providing you the things you want from your phone, so there's nothing you can blame actually.

                          I really don't understand, what's happening with Sony's smartphone business in their home land - their market share has almost halved over the year: from 10.68% - 07.2022 to only 5.5% in July 2023. (Mobile vendors market share Japan). Any ideas?

                              While we do like Sony for keeping ceetain features around, lets not ignore the facts:

                              Sony raised prices last year and did mistakes (Xperia 10 V). People are not that dumb to not notice that. And if the Xperia 5 V rumors are true, another mistake could be in its way (salvageable only if the Xperia 5 actually becomes smaller like the Zenfone 9)

                                For example:

                                Xperia Ace (first model) was made in Japan. Sharp Aquos lineup is Japan-made too.

                                In general, smartphones in Japan are expensive for some reason. iPhone is just simply popular due to actors and people like that using it (same thing happens in South Korea)

Basically sony phones are just showcase fir what's coming next and selling them is not the point

                                    Indeed it's pricey but Xperia is really like no other. In terms of software testing and upgrading the devices software processing it's the shamest (they are not willing to help the users), and they must change that not the marketing of the sensors, for better times!
