Android in Apr 2013: JB overtakes ICS, Gingerbread still rules

02 May, 2013
Android 4.1 and 4.2 JB combined have a bigger market share than 4.0 ICS, but the 4.2 users are still few.

This is because half of the phones out there couldn't get an update if you wanted to. Outdated within two years.

just for your information, everyone would wants to update their phone to JB but stuck at GB or ICS because OEM wouldn't upgrade due to hardware or just don't release the upgrade

The numbers for Gingerbread are going to drop really significantly over 2013 because people who bough their phones throughout 2011 (GB) are going to replace their phones this year. Even though most 2011 models got updates, most people don't update their phones. I'm sure by the end of the year we'll see less than 10% of GB phones. Now 4.0 to 4.2 - not much has changed, to be honest. 4.2 Brings nothing new that is good to the table, just more clutter of rather useless features with almost no under the hood upgrades.

GB the most popular as it is the most complete (useful)Android OS upgrade to date. JB is just an extension of ICS. My HTC raider 4g runs ICS and i fail to see any tangible difference or advantage having JB. Tempted to upgrade to HTC One (4.1) or SGS4 (4.2) but my Raider works fine so i'll save my money and wait.

Maybe some are right, that a lot of people don't actually know how to update their phones and aren't confident in doing so?

If they are getting full usage out of Gingerbread, then that tells a story about Android since V2.

Android has had every feature that people need since v2.3 and the updates have not really added much.

reading this, no wonder why ppl like ios and why wp8 is on the rise. Android is a total joke so fragmented and so slow to get updates. although i am a nexus 4 user, i cant wait for a high end wp8 phone to come so i can leave this fragmented world and go to a smoother OS.

Ginger is here to stay with us for a looong time, thanks to the manufacturers who usually say "it can't be updated, hardware requirements, compatibility", bs like that.
