Could it possibly be that people haven't upgraded their phones in a long time and the last supporting their platform had was Gingerbread?

Anonymous, 02 May 2013good marketing by android ... sell a lot of JB handsets, to... morewell technically Android 4-4.2 IS LEADING A MAJORITY. 56% are now on either ics or jb... its all still Android 4! hardly fragmentation! there is only really 2 main versions. 2 and 4! 2 is always popular as it runs most of the mid-low end devices...most newer phones are already on 4.0 and like My unlocked Galaxy S2...are getting jelly bean imminently! 2 main Android versions is good.Android is for amazing phones..but also for those who want a cheaper option but still an amazing operating system!

my mother in law decided to get a new phone after 12 years being on the same panasonic clam shell and all she wanted was the same. so last week she went to CPW and was talked into and Galaxy Ace LaFlur and came round to show us. to my horror it's still running 2.3.7 gingerbread and no official upgrade. so i recon that there are a lot of low to mid range android phones still running this old OS.

Unsurprised that Gingerbread is still tops, both ICS and Jellybean are rubbish - too bloated, too fiddly, stupidly hardware requirements, no performance increase, still have rubbish battery life. Android as an OS is a complete mess of fragmentation.

the main reason why many people didnt upgrade their phone from GB is that their phone is not meeting the hardware req( above 512 mb ram)

lots of users like to update their phones , but unfortunately it's companies that don't update their phones to force user to buy new one ! usually only most recent-released phones got update ! Actually users are stuck in gingerbread ! I have LG Optimus 3D MAX which is a 2012 phone , but it was released with GB and there is no ICS for it !
