I don't think rising prices is bigger of a culprit here given the longevity of any PCs and mostly I've seen a lot of people holding on to their laptops/PCs 8-10 years. So the only buyers are Enthusiasts or first time buyers. I think the trend will continue because not everyone needs latest and greatest computer and they will upgrade when it really starts to cause problems. DIY market is still strong as ever.

The reason for declining market in India is due to the exorbitant prices charged for Laptop and Desktop. Prices are usually 30-40% higher than the global market. Considering the Indian market distribution, even if you spend 700-800 dollars, you will get crap piece of hardware. So, people generally don't upgrade it. Example, I bought acer predator laptop bought 4 years and although the frame is broken, I still use it with external monitor connected to it via HDMI. Because if I buy the new predator series laptop it cost 40-50% more. So why upgrade, just get it repaired. New Laptops aren't giving any value anyways. So many people also buy used PC's.

K , 19 Aug 2023Why are you both giving ideas to OEM's and Microsoft? ... moreDo you seriously think Microsoft and most PC OEMs care about the environment? If they did, we would’ve had user repairable and upgradable laptops today and Windows 11 having the same hardware support as Windows 10.

Excess consumption is bad for the planet. The ecology is more important than microsofts bottomline.

And here I was thinking the geek squad and microsoft center in india amongst many other centers in key places or red zones would accelerate the demand for PC. Well, most windows OS version runs fine with VMWare or AnyDesk, I guess, hence the low demand.

Because people are smart now a days and build their own rigs 🫡

"Gartner Says Worldwide PC Shipments Declined 28.5% in Fourth Quarter of 2022 and 16.2% for the Year."

The Indian Market is doing better than the global average.

"IDC: India's PC market continues to slide, shrinks by 15 year-over-year"

A bit alarmist to call 15 fewer sold computers in a year a slide, innit?

Why is this a surprise? Same stories everywhere. The pandemic created a spike in demand, the OEMs reacted, thinking they have a change in the dying PC market, but now it’s over and we’re back. People don’t upgrade their PCs as often as their phones. Even smartphone is peaking.

Next best option is to collude with Microsoft and artificially dropping support for more CPUs in Windows 12, forcing people to upgrade if they want to have the latest OS.

Most of laptops have plastic boxes bad displays old hardware already 3 years still plenty of 4gb ram

12th year on Asus, still good. My next may be soon tho. Loading 200mp pics is not possible anymore 😂

The government should go ahead and make it worse by placing a 90% duty on GPUs.
