Somehow it doesn't feel right calling it mk V. 5 series has always been the outlier in the family getting released later than the other 2 but now that the difference is more distinct, maybe it's time to redesign the 5 and call it something else.

no more telephoto? sony finally just started offering some usable camera setups with the new xperia 1 v by moving away from crapp 12mp 1/1.7" main sensor and now the 5 v loses the telephoto camera. sony is on the same path as samsung. it raises the difference between 1 and 5 like samsung did with plus and ultra, so people go for the most expensive model.

Finally...the wait is OVER.
Sony has finally MADE IT, a perfect compact flagship with almost no compromises.

Too much for just 128GB.
Also, would be nice if it had 5 years of support. One could then buy it two years later for a much cheaper price and still enjoy the support for another 3 years.

404, 01 Sep 2023Xperia's camera is good if you're skilled enough ... moreThis is the problem with Sony phones. It's amazing camera hardware but like you said, you need to use manual mode to get the best results. This is fine but a smartphone NEEDS a good auto mode, when you need to quickly snap a picture. It's essential. A big miss by Sony.

mesand, 01 Sep 2023Completely agree... This is worth no more than 500€.... Com... moreReally? Name another competitor offering a small flagship with fronting stereo speakers, expanded memory, and a 5,000 mAH battery.
I agree the price is high especially because of 128GB internal storage but let's not pretend compact users that need the above hardware exists elsewhere.

David, 01 Sep 2023Clearly exists only to push people onto the 1V. No one woul... moreNot really, though. Xperia 5 has always been the better choice if you don't care much about having a large screen with a 4K screen resolution.

I feel somewhat conflicted about the new dual-camera setup. While I am happy to see the 1 Mk5's primary camera made its way here, I think Sony can keep the 5 Mk4's native 2.5x zoom telephoto camera. I know the primary camera can do up to 3x lossless zoom, but keeping the telephoto camera for Portrait photography won't hurt.
Other than that, it's the familiar Xperia 5 as always. I'm even surprised this new phone is shorter than last year's predecessor while still maintaining the 5000mAh battery.

Will the OLED become with light saber/green lines after a year of usage? If it doesn't, it is not a real Xperia 5.

I just bought an xperia 1 iii "cameraphone". Also I have a Vivo x80pro. My god. Xperia takes blury photos, unrealistic colors, af is crap. After two days I just can't wait to sell it. And I will feel guilty because I need to put in the advert," it takes wonderful photos"

I have been using Xperia 5 III for 2 years and now its time for me to get another job phone but I think I will wait for pixel 8. I don't have a good experiences from using 5 III (overheating and al lot of bugs). Its weird that they got rid off zoom camera, I found myself using it quite often.
What do you think about waiting for pixel 8?
