Honestly, you could also make a pretty cheap gaming PC now.
Ryzen 5700g + 16GB DDR4 + 1TB WD SN570 + 6700XT
Which is basically Xbox series X specs for only €768, not a bad price.
But for the next upgrade, you will have to change almost everything for who knows how much.
Buying Xbox now and later the next gen will end up cheaper.

What is expensive according to many of you is that subscription, for 9 years you will pay ~€1500.
For that price, how many games can you buy on stream even If they are no sale? 30-40?
That's not a lot for a 9-year period.

I was thinking and what I wrote could be a bit different.
The reason being that desktop I made is pretty high-end compared to Xbox.
7800X3D is an overkill. R5 770O including cooler would also be more than enough and will save €100. RX 6800 is also more appropriate vs Xbox GPU, so another €100.
The prices for upgrades I will keep, considering I also added 50% extra cost for the next Xbox.

With this PC HW should be ~€150-200 cheaper than Xbox + ultimate subscription for 9 years.
Thanks to the fact you need to buy games for your PC while xbox with Its subscription offering a huge game library for no additional fee will ultimately end up in Xbox's win.

You say I don't understand how It works, but the one who doesn't know what he is talking about is you.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2023If you use your pc for like 7-9 years(with 1 cpu and maybe ... moreInitial decent PC:
        7800X3D + 32GB DDR5 + 1TB SSD + RTX4070 = €1700
        Then during 9 years another €1700 for 2x GPU(2x €600) and 1x CPU(1x €500) upgrades.
In total €3400 just for HW.

        XBox Series X + 2x controllers + Forza: €564
Next gen Xbox: €800 (+50% to cost)
        In total €1364 for HW.
Even If I included Game Pass Ultimate for the whole 9 years, that's currently 4*38=€152 per year -> €1368, but let's say they will increase the price during that time so let's put It at €1500 In total.
        If I add It together, It's €2864.

So a decent PC is still €536 more expensive.
OK, If you can sell 2 GPUs and 1 CPU during that time for 1/2 of the price, you will recoup €800.
PC would be suddenly €264 cheaper, but you also can sell your first Xbox for 1/2 of the price, meaning Xbox would be once more €264 - €282 = €18 cheaper.

Yes, that's a laughable difference, but with Xbox you will have hundreds of free games during that time, but with PC only a few which were bundled with the CPU or GPU.
So yes, I don't consider PC gaming cheaper If all is included, but I also must say that MS has a way better offer for subscription than Sony.
BTW, I am a PC gamer with 300 games in my Steam account.

Your comment contradicts itself, you say consoles are the cheapest for gaming, yet you made your comment based on the "saving money in the long run" remark as evidenced by the guy you replied to. If you did the math you would know PC is cheaper IN THE LONG RUN by the sole fact that its online and cloud saving is free, meaning in a few years the more expensive PC will pay for itself while you have to continue paying a subscription on consoles, they're only cheaper IN THE SHORT RUN.

Then you go around saying it's "nonsense" when you yourself don't understand how any of this works, its the most ironic thing ever.

And the likes of Gamepass, which is more worth it than PS plus (as shown a few posts earlier) can be recoup by playing AAA games that are included on it.

Anonymous, 01 Sep 2023What is that nonsense about saving money in the long run? ... moreIt's no use trying to reason with pc gamers because they think everyone has access to cheap pc parts. Never mind that Starfield players who own 3XXX or 4XXX rtx cards are crying over their game's performance while still laughing at Xbox Series S users who play at 30fps.

If you understand how the economy works that is.

And since this is all digital, meaning no materials beeing used for the product, only workhours, it should be getting cheaper by the hour/month/year then anything else.

But sadly, people have no clue how any of it works so companys can do whatever they like to try to fill their greed

Consoles are still by far the cheapest option for gaming.

Yes but you can play games with it.

But truth to be told you need either 256/512gb edition or 64gb edition and upgrade the ssd in addition to use the micro sd card to get enough storage for games.

But i do not recommend steam deck(1) for people who would like to play latest games because it is lacking in performance, Asus rog ally or Lenovo legion go would allow much more performance, though Asus is having serious issues with micro sd cards.

Maybe with Steam deck 2 you can get enough power to play latest games but that could be even 2025 when it comes with Amd rdna 4(i doubt there is pro version of steam deck with rdna 3 in 2023-2024 but we could hope).
