People are keeping phones longer these days. The only people who keep changing phones every one or two years are those who buy phones through carrier contracts in the first place.

Samsung lost another 8 million of sales, Samsung sales are so low nowdays. Apple have very good chance to became best selling smartphone company in 2023.

Key for a former phone enthusiast like myself is to eliminate any overhead and use the phones I already have as long as possible. I now have free phone service for a year.
$30 AT&T 5 GB high speed data prepaid plan under ACP = $0
Spectrum since we have Internet under them gave me free mobile service for a year. It's unlimited but I believe it throttles after 20 GB. So I have two lines I'm not paying for a year. But after a year, the monthly bills goes up to $30 flat (taxes included). I can just go back to AT&T and not pay a dime ever again as long as the ACP government program exists which I hear won't expire any time soon. At most, I'll pay $10-$15 monthly.

I don't have to change my phone every year
I have a 4yo xiaomi mi 9 se that works fine
I'm not gonna replace it until it completely die!
Between 2010-2015 smartphones Did evolve quickly and had substantial upgrades
Now with all these new marginal features I don't have to
Slightly brighter screen, larger battery, better camera or faster charging
I'm not willing to pay fortune for that!

lop, 04 Sep 2023Samsung downgraded and upmarketed irtself out of existence.Agree. The ageing Tab S7 is still priced ridiculously. And the cheaper choice besides the even older Tab s6 are those Tab A lineup that are still being sold with 2gigs or ram. Better alternatives are either stuck in China or stuck with old security updates.
