But both of these groups pirate heavily, esp Android users. Whether they have no more money after spending too much or just a bunch of cheapskates, nobody knows.

They needed to be plugged in to powerbanks for usage longer than a hour or two. Which makes sense since no one plays on a gaming laptop with the battery anyways.
Even Valve used a weaker one to save costs and have a decent, low- power usage on battery.

FatShady, 07 Sep 2023everyone is dreaming about a new soc, but they are forgetti... moreYou're wrong, and you seem to understand how things work.

The SoC in the Switch was state of the art and the best choice when they had to make a final decision on hardware and specs, and send out development kits for studios.

And it seems you don't know that Switch is a hand-held game console: it has a battery.

With hand-held consoles you can't just put the most powerful SoC or GPU in them, because the battery wouldn't last an hour. They have to make the best trade-off between performance and battery-life, and the SoC in the Switch was the best choice at the time.

everyone is dreaming about a new soc, but they are forgetting that this is nintendo, the first one came out with outdated hardware even then, so for this, they will go with the cheapest soc that is barely capable of runing their current games at 720p 60fps, with no bluetooth of course...

Switch and PS3 games run not very good on Android. Better just to buy a Switch, PS3 and play them without all the glitches etc....

ed, 07 Sep 2023wrong,most people use their nintendo in dock modeWrong, never played on dock mode, the point of switch is to enjoy it portable and its the only way I like to play it.

Zendroid, 07 Sep 2023Hopefully with 2023 tech, and android! Nintendo aren't using Google Android with Google's Playstore lmfaooo. Never have and never will!

ed, 07 Sep 2023wrong,most people use their nintendo in dock modeSource? Nintendo themselves revealed only 20% of Switch owners use them in Docked mode only.

imparanoic, 07 Sep 2023While there are a lot of crap games on switch estore, there... moreThe thing with nintendo is its properties like mario and pokemon that help massively. I mean pokemon is the highest grossing media franchise EVER, loads of problems even with the games and microtransactions and quality of products but people WILL buy a switch just for pokemon games. Same with mario franchise and a couple others. Plus its portable so a fan favourite fot parents and kids (personal experience with this).

It will really depend on what SoC they'll use for it, something like an AMD apu (either laptop variant or ones in RoG Ally), either that or some of the recent announcements of snapdragon releasing portable game console focused SoCs/new generations. They could push its price beyond $400 which btw, doesnt convert 1:1 in most of the rest of the world and other currencies. Cant see them using a new nvidia SoC like more recent Xavier or Orin SoCs, probbaly too expensive.

It really needs to be doing 1080p 120hz at this point with the competition it has. I doubt itll have a good HDR capable screen for HDR gaming (push price way too high) but if they decide it can be used for all round content consumption then be nice to watch HDR content. Also the ability to use any headphones/headset and fast charging.

While there are a lot of crap games on switch estore, there are not many games on switch which have aggressive microtransactions unlike mobile games, the fact that switch sold close to 130 mil units suggest it's very successful and closer to over take PlayStation 2 record of 160 mil units sold, by that standards, you can expect successor switch to be more than likely as successful, but can they balance the fine line Between affordability and performance? Expect sub USD 400 price tag and it's performance could be closer to steam deck then people expect, add HDR screen and 1080p resolution as well

kek, 07 Sep 2023You can count with your fingers the number of companies/gam... moreYou clearly dont know the industry then, i would need more than all my toes and fingers to count the companies.

Terrible practices the likes of releasing broken, unfinished games, basically charging people £120 for the full experience of a game, sports games like nba, fifa etc literally being pay to win, lootbox galore which wasnt a "mobile gaming" mechanic but rather youtube and its influencers booming in the 2010s and essentially EA finding a loophole on exploiting kids, fortnite followed suit and this is about 5 years ago now. Rockstar has been at this for about 8 years now with GTA 5 and RDR2.

Xbox is essentially a game pass system (the best way to get the most out of the system) so just monthly subscription which again became more a thing in the 2010's with the likes of spotify and Netflix growing in popularity.

Im not saying its good on mobile, which its bad, but its not any better for consoles anymore (the big companies are the one doing it instead of people just making clones to make money).

Now try doing the same on Android. It's literally the other way around: only a handful of companies sell proper games without in-game crap transactions.

Fortnite, COD Warzone are actually the result of mobile gaming cancer splashing the rest of the industry.

Like other said they will use 8 low clock Cortex A78 cores + Nvidia Gpu. Most average users care about battery life and Comfort over perfomance.

Nintendo will get an Octa Core A78E with all the shaders version.

nVIDIA won't compete and will go with Hexa one with 60% shaders, definately will emulate Switch classic potential wise as long you hack it.

Rumours from months ago were the new SoC had Cortex-A78AE cores and Nvidia Ampere-based GPU. That already makes it a lot more powerful than the original Switch. And it would include modern techniques like raytracing and DLSS. The latter would make it easy to upscale to 4K while rendering at lower resolutions.
