Google shows the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2 in new teaser videos

It looks like the company just can't contain its excitement for the October 4 launch.

I need an excellent hi-res wide-angle on a phone , to photograph indoors in bad light, and to do landscapes with. Not just the standard wide-angle and what they laughingly call a telphoto lens, but which is only 50-80mm which is portrait, not tele. Nobody does them at all. Android authority claims the 8 will sport a 64MP ultrawide, but...as it is quad bayer the results are 16MP, the same as I already have with my 16mm ultrawide on an old LG7. (From the good old days before quad-bayer when the quoted resolution was the actual resolution, not a quarter of it, or a ninth of it, or a twelth of it, Samsung et al.
To get the minimum improvement on old Huaweis that had 18mm 20MP sensors requires an 80MP sensor if it is quad bayer, and I personally, as a photographer feel that we are being cheated of the detail resolution old phones had, so buying a new one becomes pointless as there is optically no progress at all to improve on what I can get in normal light from my Microsoft /Nokia 1020 that actually has 34/38 MP resolution in either 16:9 or 4:3 formats in both jpeg and RAW DNG, and whose files can be corrected and "seen" by DXO labs software, as well as the usual handy standby of Photos in Mac OS & iOS.

So I THINK about buying, but cannot go backwards in technology just to buy something new, and as time goes on I feel it would be a good idea generally were phone manufacturers like google to simply use decent non-Bayer 1" sensors for their ultrawide lenses, since the much greater coverage of ultrawide lenses ( a 16mmm captures AT LEAST 4 times what a 28mm captures at the same subject distance ) demands 50MP ACTUAL resolution just to get the same detail the standard 12MP wide lens on a any phone yields, which is the reason GSM arena reviewers rightly criticize the sharpness of phone ultrawides for.
And, another truly important factor is how we see our pictures now on at least 4K screens, or 5K if you have an old-style Intel iMac! 16MP at 1:1 size CANNOT fill a 5K screen, no matter what physical size that screen is. 20MP is OK, just, and fine on a 4K screen, so 20MP ultrawide is the minimum resolutuion possible to see full-screen on a 4K monitor or TV without enlargement.
This is even more important with panoramas which reviewers here now shamelessly neglect when they are key to mobile photography's long-term success as a visual medium. When are we going again to see GSM, full-sized samples of panoramas from both ultrawide and stanbdard phone cameras? After all, we pay to be able to make these panoramas-its WHY I, and others use phones AT ALL!!! but nowhere now can I find samples in reviews with analysis of whether they are good enough or whether the distortion interferes (especially in ultrawides) with the success of these images. Yes, I do need help!

Anonymous, 08 Sep 2023It's to show how hot, literally, Tensor socs. What is hot? I have been using the Pixel 7 for 9 months I didn't notice any more heating then Iphone 14 Pro I used before it. It only heats up a bit while charging. Plus it is extremely stupid even comparing it to any other premium phone, which costs 2X more. :D And also then lose when photography is involved :D Papaaaa

I've been using Pixel 7 after I got rid of the Iphone 14 Pro, and I was reborn. All applications work great, no fucked up notifications (It is not up to Iphone it is up to application story). Charging is fine, same as on Iphone, I charge it once during the night anyway. Best WFM on the market. REgarding heating this phone is not for gaming, Google said it.
