This is great as this gives customer more choices over there phone brand also this helps keep price down because you're not paying for brand name this way I wonder how there getting the phones made

Hopefully people don't find reasons too complain about it but knowing what people are like am sure people will find one reason or another too turn this into a problem

magnaroader, 16 Sep 2023Go back to this site's coverage of Nokia 9 and 8 Siroc... more"Go back to this site's coverage of Nokia 9 and 8 Sirocco as mentioned in my original comment. What manufacturer is listed in GSMArena?
        Nokia."

It doesn't matter since HMD doesn't manufacture phones under it's name. They use the Nokia name and it's here under Nokia because that's the brand it was made under.

"And I'm pretty sure EVERYONE knows Nokia who made those two phones are HMD version of Nokia."

There is no HMD version of Nokia, it's HMD only. Nokia doesn't make smartphones, everyone knows this by now.

"In any case, it's pointless continuing this conversation since we can go at it all year and it won't change the fact that NOKIA as I meant it is HMD and anyone with 2 braincells knows this."

Anyone with more than 2 brain cells could've typed out a better written comment, but you somehow struggled with that 🤷

"Especially when it was VERY WELL KNOWN that HMD NOKIA made the phones I mentioned above. JEEZ."

The issues isn't whether people know HMD made those phones or not, the issue is the way you typed your comment.

The articles talks about how HMD is going to be using their own brand name for their phones. Your comment was:

"For this to make sense, Nokia itself has to make phones that people care about, right?"

This implies that Nokia the company is making phones when that's not the case.

"They haven't made anything relevant since the Nokia 9 (so much wasted potential!) and the Nokia 8 Sirocco."

Again you should differentiate between HMD and Nokia, they aren't the same company even if they have their headquarters beside each other and even if one uses the other's name for their products.

GSMarena still releases news for Nokia and they separate between the two, you should be able to do the same

Would be nice to see them bringing back MeGoo, am tired of google, and apple. We need to revert back to privacyOS's where the focus was on innovation, evolution and perfection, not on "how to implement more and more tracking possibilities... ".

If you're talking about HMD then say HMD. This website has covered Nokia's fall since 2013-14 and how Nokia doesn't make phones anymore, but they license their name to HMD.

Anonymous, 13 Sep 2023Nope, the factory is owned by Sony not Foxconn. https:/... moreThanks for the clarification, but having a factory in Thailand has nothing to do with manufacturing. 😄
And still, Sony's own website and their own phones need to confirm this, because the manufacturer information can only be revealed via system dumps, unlike Nokia that lists their ODM and manufacturer in their website.

magnaroader, 13 Sep 2023No one claimed HMD didn't make them...jeez. "For this to make sense, Nokia itself has to make phones that people care about, right?

When you say "they" it's heavily implied that you are referring to Nokia, not HMD. You start off by saying "Nokia itself" and then talk about how they haven't made anything relevant since the Nokia 9 and 8 Sirocco.

Sorry for the misunderstanding I guess?

Obviously HMD cant compete with Apple or Samsung, they don't have the manufacturing or components capability or the customer loyalty yet. Doesn't make sense to release a flagship if you are going to struggle to sell it.
They are competing the the lower sector by offering more sustainable phones that are better software supported than random Chinese brands.

Either way, we can only come to assumptions as Nokia is a company with a massive history and unpredictable reputation in their post-Symbian era.

The term tough, does not exist for more then 3 years now. Even the king of ewaste, "xiaomi", has turn their back on that. Their poco line beeing less then mediocre, is now even more garbage then before and all of that at the same price or more expensive and with a midranger cpu while their xiaomi devices are priced like they actually have something to say on the smartphone market... while they are nobodies with a reverse enginiering behaviour and low quality hardware, that innovated absolutely nothing since their existance.
