If they can do that, premium ones should be easy.

            I just hate Steven Elop.
He killed Symbian and Meego when Nokia market share was 41%.
Imagine having a company with a market share of more than 40% and go to a new unpopular operating system like Windows Phone.
Nokia was the number phone maker from 1998 and until 2013!

            Hopefully, Microsoft is happy now.

Anonymous, 12 Sep 2023"The Nokia-owned Finnish company" What?! When ... moreHi from Finland 🇫🇮. Nokia is still a huge Finnish company. They just sold the brand name to a startup company in Espoo named HMD Global who started to make Android phones. The license was for 10 years beginning in 2016, which means it will end in 2025. This is just my thoughts next: Probably Nokia had regrets after seeing what HMD Global haa produces especially in the last 2 years or so? I think they have told HMD that game over we will not renew our license. Initially Nokia didn't own anything of HMD but a couple of years ago HMD was very close to bankruptcy and then to avoid that an get funds Nokia bought a 10% share of HMD.

                  Ahahahahahahahahah

Oh boy, I've seen some delusional companies, but the Home of Mediocre Devices definitely takes the cake.
So, let's resume: since 2016 they have completely FAILED to deliver phones worthy of the Nokia brand they were licensing. They've lost customers, momentum, manufacturing partners and consumer interest. They've, in the process, turned the Nokia-brad absolutely worthless in the consumer market...and now they think they stand a chance with HMD-branded devices?

WHO in their right mind will be buying the devices? The very few smartphones they now still sell are mostly sold to people who still fall for the Nokia-brand trap and aren't aware the phones aren't really Nokia (something we still see in Nokia's own social media accounts where people complain to Nokia about the smartphones, unaware Nokia has nothing to do with them). Take those away and who remains?

This venture have even less chances of success than the "Microsoft Lumia" branded phones 🤣

So this is basically separate the Nokia name from HMD all because of post latest phone releases after the Nokia 9 are filled with mid to lowkey bricks that are durable than most bendy Chinese flagship destroyers....

Too Harsh, yeah thats the current reality of the brand right now...

Caeruleum7125, 12 Sep 2023This. Some of their device names are just weird. What does ... more?? Samsung has A52, A73, etc.. what a bias.. Of course different number mean different tier.. Just because you don't understand brand you don't like, you just slam them for anyhting...

D.O.A , how can you fail to sell with the nokia brand and think a phone with HMD entice people to buy. Their phones are crazy expensive too with specs that can't compete with chinese brands. oh! software support from HMD is also trash.

The article needs a correction: Nokia do not own HMD.

                          My thoughts already posted elsewhere:

I think people overestimate the capabilities of Nokia Corporation, people blame Elop or Microsoft and now HMD, but the truth is Nokia themselves hastened their own demise and then were content to watch HMD flounder with their brand license (look at how they treat licensing in general with RichGo, OFF Global etc.).

The Nokia brand is a blessing and a burden, but HMD without it will take their place among the likes of TCL and HTC without any expectations from their devices.

I think Nokia may avoid licensing for smartphones and tablets entirely rather than look for another licensee, how would another company produce anything vastly different to HMD when they are drawing on the same components, supply chains and ODMs?

Companies with either the scale or direct manufacturing capability do not need to license the Nokia brand, they are already successful with their own devices, so any prospective licensee would probably be worse off than HMD who have at least spent some time developing their own supply, logistics and manufacturing network.

Perhaps HMD either have longer term goals to become a European ODM (as Baril mentions in his announcement, they are beginning European manufacturing) or they will potentially end up like Brodos AG with whom they exhibited at IFA 2023 earlier this month: https://brodos.com/en/

HMD have already spun off a separate company, HMD Solutions, for EMM services and IoT: https://solutions.hmdglobal.com/

Going to be just rebranded Chinese Nokia’s that they already make, like what BBK does with its brands. I wish Nokia was a real Finnish company again with in house designs.
