Weekly poll results: the sustainable Fairphone 5 has its fans and its detractors

17 September 2023
The biggest issue for this phone is that it is not available in most of the world - so even if you wanted one, you might not be able to buy one.

Anonymous, 19 Sep 2023Dude you are talking nonsense. Aren't you getting sick... moreYpu are talking nonesense. Who said sustainability means a 3.5mm jack? You? And if it head one, you'd complain about the plastic back, and then about the screen, and then about why they pay more money to the factory workes instead of making the phone cheapper, and then about why is blue and not red. We get it, is not for you, now go buy "sustainability" somewhere else and stop whinning about what others told you to whine about. An usb c to jack adapter costs 5 euros, if you can't consider one of those because it is not sustainable enough for you then what will that make the phone you use right now? Or the device you consider to buy next? E-waste on arrival? Most probably.

The EU has mandated for all phones to have user-replaceable batteries by 2027, which is 5 years into the FP5's update cycle. This significantly affects the value offering of this product, especially when it is already expensive.

SShreyas, 20 Sep 2023"Well man i disagree sorry but i must" It's... moreMy friend wrong.
Plug and play is fine but those cables in phone takes space for another better things than a jack audio.
You can always buy USB-C earphones if you dont want to go wireless.
          Same goes with many else.
Wireless is the future for everyone. Fact you dont want to accept it means you love to live like caveman in dark age.

It's not an opinion, but a fact. Just like if you stop believing the earth is round won't make it false, so is this. Sound signature is subjective, and I didn't talk about it.

"And wireless is simple where cables are nothing but burden as always"
You seem to be confusing between "fact" and "opinion" so much that you think whatever you're saying is fact and whatever other is saying is opinion.
            What is "simple"?
Circuit? No, wired has much simpler circuit.
Connectivity? No. Wired is simply plug and play.
Operation? Nope. Wired has much simple operation which simply requires to convert analogue signal to digital ones.

"wuireless in future will be better than wired one things"
Again, you think whatever you're saying is a "fact" (even if it's some weird dream about some random point of time in "future").

            "Wireless era is future"
Nope. It isn't. For normies, might be. Definitely not for enthusiasts and pros.
And imo, people who don't want shitty future where every inferior e-waste needs to be charged, should push for the things as they are, just like that person did.

SShreyas, 19 Sep 2023"whether you believe it or not" Looks like you&#... moreWell man i disagree sorry but i must.
And wireless is simple where cables are nothing but burden as always.
Wireless era is future and wuireless in future will be better than wired one things.

Cpt.Power, 19 Sep 2023Well even batteries can be recycled whether you believe it ... more"whether you believe it or not"
Looks like you've a reading problem. How did you reach the conclusion that I said "batteries can't be recycled"?
I said recycling is the last resort in terms of sustainability because of its inefficiency.
And you don't need to "spend electricity" to charge wires, but you do need it to charge the batteries.
Moreover, wireless products use a ton of other components to power and thus consume way too much electricity compared to their wired alternatives.

"In your option cables audio is better in mine is othervise since i like simple things."
Firstly, it's not about "opinions". There exist something called "frequency response curve" to give a measure of quality and how close to ideal a pair of audio products are compared to other.
And wireless audio products are always (literally always) inferior to a wired product (in any given price range).

Secondly, wireless isn't "simple". Wired is.

"Hey buy our phone because manufacturers like Apple are overcharging you for repairs you shouldn't need."

*Charges $750 for a phone with the GPU from the slow as hell Snapdragon 780G*

SShreyas, 19 Sep 2023"Wireless is the future cables are burden they always ... moreWell even batteries can be recycled whether you believe it or not there are also some metals and other stones which can be reused.
In your option cables audio is better in mine is othervise since i like simple things.

Cpt.Power, 19 Sep 2023No man i am very sensible not sick of my self. Truth been... more"Wireless is the future cables are burden they always was"

Not only wireless provides trash audio quality (at any given price point), latency (though I believe it might be solved like they did with wireless gaming peripherals), and most importantly, needs to be charged.
And as far as sustainability (which is the reason of existence of this brand) goes, anything that needs to be charged despite having an alternative that doesn't needs to be, then it is against that very principle.

Also, recycling is the last "R" in "3/5 Rs" of sustainability for a reason. Recycling doesn't restore things back to what they were.
And from what I know, cables can be recycled too. The only difference is, you can create anything out of a wire's metal, but can't with batteries.

Anonymous, 19 Sep 2023Dude you are talking nonsense. Aren't you getting sick... moreNo man i am very sensible not sick of my self.
                        Truth been spoken.
Wireless is the future cables are burden they always was.
Greener options are always better for environment than shady, cloudy, darker ones such as cables.

Wired superior to wireless maybe but cables are burden anyway.
So the wireless is the greener option while cable version is the burden option.
