"beloved" you say.
That port is the best example of how bad closed propietary design can get.
Imagine being stuck on USB 2.0 for a decade.

Iphon... moreYou got some things wrong here:
1) Android phone users are not obsessed with updates in the way iOS users are. Sure, updates matter, but not as much to Android users. They can be like 2 versions away from latest, and that still won't matter much to them, because their apps won't stop working unlike iOS
2) Despite Android phone companies market share is slowly decreasing, it's just because more and more companies are entering the market. Total sales are still far more for Android, which holds majority share in smartphone users
3) Android ecosystem isn't developing slowly. In fact Android phones have many of features arriving first, both, on the hardware and software side. It's actually iPhones that recieve the same features slowly. iPhone 15 for example, still with a refresh rate from 2019. And it's just now, that the 15 pro max has a periscope camera that arrived first in 2015 on some Zenfone. Just for examples
Hope that helps :) have a nice day

Koishi Komeiji, 17 Sep 2023when iPhone 7: "Apple saying goodbye to the 3.5mm head... moreI remember commenters here 8 years ago. They said.
Iphone X will be the last phone apple will made.
By 2019. Apple will stop making iphones.
Then Another rumor. 2021 will be the end for apple. And they will leave the smartphone market.
You think apple would stop making iphones?
As long as many people are buying them. Even if Iphone 25 is released. Apple will continue making iphones.
Meanwhile, on the side of android. I could already see some manufacturers are producing less android devices. And is also not selling well.
Even the android ecosystem is progressing slowly! With 13.3% running on latest android version. Much lower than ios.

I'd say good riddance. Lightning was made before USB-C, so it was great back then. But time marches on, and Apple themselves have committed completely to USB-C/Thunderbolt on Macs and iPads. Makes no sense that iPhone sticking with lightning for so long.

I had a dream that the EU mandated FM radio and SiriusXM on all smartphones and that Apple was included in the legal requirements of having terrestrial FM in their new handsets

justasmile, 17 Sep 2023RIP Lightning port. You will never be missedOnly it was highly valued and appreciated and seen as the future when it came out over 10 years ago now. Fandroids hated micro USB days of slow charging. Apple helped develop the USB C standard. It just wasn't ready when Apple abandoned the 30 pin connector they were bleeding money on.

moreso, 17 Sep 2023What’s left? Only a logo?
from where I see, I believe next... moreTo the average consumer, ranging from cost to usage android devices would make one feel "I have all in one package"
I prefer the old time days of Apple (offering little at their best distinguishing their products from android) compared to now of which they are becoming android already
Apple's true identity/standard, I feel it's lost right when I set my eyes on the 14pro max, a device that proves Apple are struggling for ideas with new formation to start, a device with a face copy of android phones and it even came with something that no one ask for. That was the perfected a15 SOC (that did a Good job during the 13 series) underclocked to a16 for no reason but to call it "a new SOC with IMPROVED EFFICIENCY"
Now the 15pro max is out (with same external looks after 5yrs) and Apple is saying let's tell them that we can do better by copying all what they (androids) have already, at least we have been trending.
