Take a deep breath everything and just acknowledge "Chromebooks are E waste" .

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2023Or windows - the best of best for everything.Windows 10 is like the definitive OS. Everyone loved it, it could game better than MacOS (at the time), it looked pleasing and other assets.

I put chrome OS flex on my old surface laptop, and it now averages about 5-6hrs of battery, compared to the 2-3hrs of battery life it got running windows 11

The reason its used by education institutions is that windows gives them the most power over the system and what students are able to do with the computer.

Newly graduated students coming into the workforce now are typically shockingly bad at using a PC and even basic stuff as using Word for more than just typing is unknown to them.

Just like my generation had to be the technological support wheels for our elders when we came into the work force, we are now the technological training wheels for the young ones.

5 Should be enough noone wil use 10 years old PC just for brownsing because it will not run anything else.
And for said brownsing even a phone is good enough.

Meanwhile, on GNU/Linux: We finally dropped support for i386 (early 90s) processors in the latest kernel release, but you can keep using a slightly older kernel for another 10 years (Ubuntu LTS, Debian oldstable, etc.)

Windows is bloated, too many updates and load times and resources required for simple tasks is excessive.

As it should’ve been. 10 years is not that long for Windows (look at Windows XP, 7, etc). This is the minimum expected in enterprise/edu market.

Nice 👍 now 300€ Chromebooks offer longer support than 3000€ MacBook Pros 🤣🤣
At the end of Windows 10 support my fathers laptop will have received almost 20 years of updates 🤷‍♂️

Anton., 15 Sep 2023In the end it's pointless to have to do it!!! time to timeIt's never been pointless. It's already feasible with GNU Linux smartphones like Purism Librem 5 and PINE64 PinePhone. The only reason such a thing doesn't happen is that they don't want to disrupt their Android tablet and Chromebook laptop sales.
