Today I tried 3 chromebooks from Acer (or Asus) in a store. Two of them had screens that looked more washed out than my Nintendo DS Lite. On all of them, the cursor felt very weird, like it accelerated the faster you moved it. I quickly stepped back. I sure hope this weird cursor behavior can be turned off, otherwise I feel bad for the kids who have to use these.

If you wanna play only, go for Windows.

ChromeOS is light, modern, supports Android and you can use it as Linux. Even Windows does not support synchronization with Android phones as ChromeOS does.

Not a chance. Even my old high school, which used to run Linux and ChromeOS, now runs Windows. I don't even see anyone around me ever miss using either OS.

most chromebooks came with a celery. so 10 year old software update are completely pointless if it became unusable.

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2023Or windows - the best of best for everything.except when it comes to resource management, power efficiency, and not being a pain in the bum when you need to fix or change something thats more advanced than changing your pin code. Windows is not user friendly when comparing it to Chrome OS and Mac OS. The only real advantage windows has is more customizability, and way more software support (as in apps, games, and programs). other than those things, windows is not desirable for the average user, and especially students.

Anonymous, 15 Sep 2023Why do chromebooks use lame CPUs? Most of vendors's Chromebook uses low end CPU. I think they WEREN'T intended for gaming, but for study and school activities. It also smoother than Windows's low end CPU. ChromeOS mostly doesn't support PC games, unless there is cloud gaming PC-based.

Beside being LTS, there isn't really much to desire from the regular Chromebook update... In fact, many power users ever attempt to use Chromebook in a production work environment that do not wish to sign a Google Workspace account find ways to stop the auto update.

If only Google could bring this kind of software support to Android and converge Android and ChromeOS together. Modern smartphones of today are so powerful, even for the entry-level segment, that we should have no problem running GNU Linux natively inside Android through Desktop Mode. I haven't touched my laptop for quite a while because of Desktop Mode on my Android phones. It's such a great feature that everyone should pay attention to.
