Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 – a 4nm chipset for the midrange

18 September 2023
The new SoC is less powerful than any other 7-series chip.

Then again, SD7 G1 used 1+3 A710 / 4 A510 and scored virtually the same as SD778, at least CPU wise. It's less likely to be A715/A510 (2022) though since if it did, it should've crushed D7200 or even D8100, yet it only beat the former.

ashrobb, 19 Sep 2023Yes. If you do a little research you see how Android needs ... moreI guess is true. First few weeks after I bought Samsung A54 5G, the battery life was horrible compared to Poco F2 Pro. But now, it is better compared to the first few weeks. Especially now the phone has more apps installed and more workload.
But performance wise, it is much worse compared to Poco F2 Pro.
Use it mainly for Whatsapp, in Poco F2 Pro I can quickly send photos without needing to wait for the thumbnails to load. However, A54 I need to wait until the thumbnails loaded then only I can click the folder and send it. Or else, the app will freeze

If they make this on A710/A510(first release) plus the Samsung fab process, it will suffer the same fate all phones with the 7 Gen 1 have: mediocre thermals and underwhelming battery life.

Even if the internals are shared with SD 778/780/782, do remember the 7s G2 is fabbed under Samsung 4nm node. So, technically a brand-new silicon, but no major change whatsoever.

I'd be surprised if the CPU cores are actually A710/A510-based instead of CPUs from SD778. In that case, 7s G2 might be a compelling choice. That is, if it doesn't toast as its Samsung fab suggest

It's all about da money dawg, ain't no way they don't earn dat dolla bills yo,

The 7+ g2 was too good to be true because it is basically a flagship SoC for much cheaper. I guess they changed their mind and don't want to offer that chip for 7 series pricing.

This chip is old and boring, although it will still gets the job done for most people. and I also agree it should be call 6 series at this point.

Considering this has (xA78 cores and 4xA55 cores and a lower Antutu score than the 7G1, this should be called the 6G2, 6+G1, or even 790/784. It's basically a 782G chip but with 4nm. There is a massive gap between this chip and the 7+G2.

DVSeal, 19 Sep 2023You make a good point. Most phones do indeed take up to a f... moreYes. If you do a little research you see how Android needs to meet a few conditions (unknown to most users) to optimize properly. Conditions that most people don't do anymore in many cases, because they imply slow charging methods and actually leaving your phone plugged in, fully charged and idle for a few hours. Without this behaviour, you'll never have a fully optimized OS unless you trigger it yourself via terminal or ADB.

That's probably why Google is introducing a new compilation service for ART optimization with Android 14. Hopefully it will be easier to trigger it now

Anonymous, 19 Sep 2023The nm number is irrelevant, you have to compare transistor... moreMan you are just avoiding the truth Samsung 4nm is inferior to only Tsmc 5nm and Intel 7nm (intel 4), you can check any website you trust in these matters

                                  Samsung 4nm is 137 MTr/mm²
                                  Tsmc 6nm 114.2 MTr/mm²
                                  Intel 10nm 100.8 MTr/mm²

So definetely Samsung is better there.

But Tsmc 5nm and Intel 4 are better

                                  Tsmc 5nm has over 170 MTr/mm²
                                  Intel 4 has over 200 MTr/mm²
                                  Tsmc 3nm has 215 MTr/mm²

So for soc like sd 4 gen 2 and Exynos 1330 you get amazing deals because at that price point no Tsmc 5nm/4nm is available, you get superior node, at flagship level of course better you pick Tsmc one,

You can find plenty of comparison.
                                      .
                                      1. Exynos 1380 vs sd 778G both are 2.4ghz quad cortex A78
                                      2. Exynos 1330 vs D900 both dual A78 at 2.4ghz
                                      3. Sd 4 gen 2 vs sd 695 both dual A78 at 2.2ghz
                                      4. 7s gen 2 and 778G etc.

Snapdragon to snapdragon is fair comparison and if you check preliminary benchmarks of Samsung made snapdragon you can see they perform slightly better than Tsmc 6nm,

Like there you can see 2.2ghz A78 from Sd 4 gen 2 is slightly faster than 2.2ghz from sd 695, nothing much but atleast you can see 4nm from Samsung isnt Inferior perfomance wise.

Battery life here in Gsmarena they didnt review any soc up there except Exynos 1380 and it has Amazing battery life compare to it's peer.

And as i said in previous comment plenty of redmi 12 5G reviews are available, check mysmartprice youtube have one or other chanells both Exynos 1330 and sd 4 gen 2 are really good in battery life.
