On our choices, we can only agree to respectfully disagree because you won’t be buying an iPhone 15 Pro Max anytime soon just as I won’t be getting a Moto Edge 40 Pro, or any of the other 100+ devices and variants Moto will no doubt announce before Christmas this year.

I do genuinely hope you are happy with it though.

The a17 is more efficient across the curve in both spec 2017 and geekbench 5. Even if the p cores in the a17 are downclocked to match the power usage of the a16 it will be slightly more performant. Geekerwan on youtube has done all the tests.

I have Snapdragon 888. It heats so much even when browsing and battery finishes very quickly. Why you think Apple won't fix this problem and that it will impact sales?

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2023Ok You better be.

No heat issues with 15 Pro Max, phone doesn't even feel warm. So far everything very good, still hard to believe how light this feels 👌🏻

                      You get the difference yes?

DaFink, 03 Oct 2023‘Well you used your phone worng way to make your breakfast.... moreWell man it was your choice so i dont care you picked Iphone 15 pro max for some reason which only you know. I am not here to lecture you. Enjoy your frying pan phone and if you have no issues consider your self lucky.
Rocking Motorola edge 40 pro bought 2 months ago for half the price of your phone and does far more trick and far better than Apple in my opinion. And i am happy with my device.
If i had 1600 for Apple i would buy this Motorola anyway and for rest 800 would go to nice 7-14 days hollidays somewhere close to sea since we havent any in Slovakia.

I think biggest problem is bad thermals, not the chip or os. They will just adjust clock speeds but this will bring back a17 to a16 performance.

Ah I was just using it wrong I see, how very Steve Jobs of you…

Look we’ll ultimately it doesn’t matter what Apple said was the problem now does it, not when we can all just come here and listen to the likes of you and the usual crowd tell us what really is going on. And I probably shouldn’t be paying any attention to my own experience, with my own 15 Pro Max. I instead should just listen to you lot tell me how hot it should be feeling in my hands 🤷.

But they did not said its a problem with A17 CPU.
Also the problem is the charging connector which was made of titanium too.

Also I tried frying my breakfast on the back of my iPhone 15 Pro Max this morning, I thought ‘what the hell, no Apple hating Android fan has ever been wrong about anything on this site, ever’ maybe I should take their advice for once.

I had a very cold breakfast as a result, last time I’ll listen to you 😡

Anonymous, 03 Oct 2023Exactamundo. We’ll know soon enough the answer to the prima... moreIf the A17 Pro had a +30% performance increase as it was supposed to have (TSMC + Leaks), this story wouldn't have been a big deal. Apple could've throttled back 5-10% and see most of that issue gone.

The problem is the silicon. They're using low-yields (poor quality) and can only achieve a 6-9% uplift in performance. So if they throttle it, it won't be as fast or as efficient as the A16 Bionic (which was just an overclocked A15).

Another reason why this explanation seems correct is that they didn't announce any other devices using that 3nm silicon. So it must be too inefficient at current stage for the Apple Watch, and too low yields to include the release of an iPad Pro, MacBook Air, and Mac Mini.

It's almost guaranteed that next year's iPhone 16 Max will come with an A18 Pro chipset, but with lower energy usage (-5%) and much more performance (+20%). Due to using the same 3nm silicon but the proper/normal quality stuff, and probably even better due to architectural improvements. They're taking the hit in their reputation with this one, just like they did with the iPhone 6 and fixed the issues with the 6S.... but they still sold a boatload of iPhone 6 devices.

I think Apple sent all their best and innovative designers away from the iPhone 15 to work on the Apple Vision (Pro Mixed Reality Headset) this past 18 months. Let us hope the upcoming MacBook Pro devices (M3 Pro/M3 Max) don't suffer a similar problem, and hopefully they integrate a better Selfie Cam/FaceID into that huge notch.
