Android 14 is now rolling out to Pixel devices

14 Android or how to ruin your device with beta out of the box, I recently bought a Pixel 7, I don’t want to buy Pixel phones at all anymore, I want a Samsung)

    The only things I am looking forward to are the Ultra HDR (although HDR content should have been displayed correctly on capable screens from the get-go) and AI-generated wallpapers and perhaps the lockscreen customisation, which looks like they decided to finally revive Widget Locker (all the way from 2012) now.

    The rest of the features are just basic stuff copied from custom ROMs which have had these features for years (still, it's good that Google is at least trying to include them in official Android so there is less reason to root your phone) but as others have pointed out, Android as an OS is getting locked down more and more every year.

    Never mind how many great root apps have stopped working or needed painful workarounds and can only work with limited functionality because of all the restrictions.

    Till now, I believe there is no longer any way to make a complete nandroid backup on A12 or above because Android 12 blocks access to the Android/data folder, which is where all app data is kept. Even if you connect your phone to a PC, the PC cannot access it.

      Google really is abusing there power with how locked down android os is getting

        Updated my Pixel 7 pro to android 14 since then, WhatsApp has been very very buggy. Crashing and seizing

                  Audio via USB is now bit perfect. No resampling everything to 24bit 48khz. That's pretty nice.

                                Support has to end at some point.
