Rly, 15 Oct 2023But before this he guessed, thats the point in this story. No, the point is the final result. (do you even know that hypotheses is a critical step in research? Lol) The point is that even his guess pummeled the lads utterly baseless claim, which was definitely a worse guess.
Now, if you and/or him claim that it wasn't a weak guess, provide link(s) to backup his claim that "there's plenty of small and light phones on the market. And not enough big ones."

Crackling Doom, 14 Oct 2023My bad, I forgot that providing a plethora of links = valid... moreYou're just grasping at straws because, regardless of his admission of quoting that percentage based on his feelings, the percentage gotten from the links he provided is in the ballpark of "99.8%". And those links definitely put your claim that "there's plenty of small and light phones on the market, and not enough big ones" in the ditch.
Again, you're desperately grasping at straws and its funny, yet painful, to see. I mean, who makes such a claim? Must be someone with pitiful knowledge or with warped view of the present state of the smartphone market.

justasmile, 15 Oct 2023People are really going to use their phone so heavily?pay attention to the battery, that is the main factor what makes it heavy.

This phone could have weight above 300 grams probably because of that big battery mainly.

Cpt.Power, 14 Oct 2023Like it really matters.
Know many people with 10 years ol... moreAn android phone priced within 100 USD range can be used well enough for minimum 2 years without major problem like unable to update latest version of apps.
Then the same phone can be used for upto 5 years but 10 out of 100 apps can't be updated with latest versions, battery might show some less power back up capacity too.
The same phone can be used for at least 10 year but 90 out of 100 apps can't be updated with latest versions, battery needed to changed at least 1 time.
During 10 year usage user can use apps or services like - browsing websites, map, banking, shopping, what's app, youtube etc.
Banking apps might not work after 5 years but net banking can be accessed via the browser mainly chrome.
Several software related security risk may be there if anyone continue to use a device for at least 10 year but some people can do that i know cause i saw them to do that.

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2023No source, just what it feels like. But if you want to know... more359 smartphones in 2023 on GsmArena.
262 of them is 6.5 inch and up, the big ones on GsmArena .
Then you have 97 left under 6.5 inch, the small ones on GsmArena.
This is not written by my feelings which phones who are small and big, but the rules around smartphones actually very simple.
And those 99.8% you mentioned is far away from the reality.
Its around 25% small phones and around 75% big phones and 0% og the biggest phones/phablets above 7 inch.
Not even one normal smartphone in whole 2023 over 7 inch which is the segment this discussion started because of. Which you cant understand, maybe because you didn't knew how the market was untill around 2019 where we could get the real HUGE smartphones and fair enough!

Anonymous, 14 Oct 2023Let's start with what you consider small, that could ... moreNo matter what you feel, he feel, i feel or any other feel about calling a smartphone small, big or huge, there's terms about this to.
Taking from Samsungs site, but theese are the rules no matter what people feel to called them:
Larger screen phones are typically said to be 6.5-inches or above, such as the innovative Galaxy Z Flip5 with its 6.7-inch main display. The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra² boasts an impressive 6.8 inch-display, or go even bigger with the Galaxy Z Fold5 7.6-inch³

Monthy disclaimer about heavy "toughphones":
When you drop a phone, what causes damage is the shockwave travelling through the phone's body trying to rip the components apart. The energy of this shockwave is determined by the energy with which it hits the floor, and since the acceleration caused by gravity is constant, and the drop height is not under our control, the most important factor which we can change to determine the energy with which your phone will hit the ground is it's weight. (Energy = Acceleration x Mass)
A phone that weighs twice as much will generally tend to hit the floor with twice as much energy, leading to a shockwave with twice as much "destructive oomph" to it.
Therefore, this kind of "toughphone" that weighs 300, 400, 500 grams, is simply a scam, since it would actually break more easily than a normal phone. If you want to prevent your phone from breaking in the case of a drop, then get yourself a good case. A lightweight phone with a bulky case, the bulky case being designed with a hard shell and a foam-filled interior, is how you optimise for toughness. The foam will help lower the peak of the shockwave's energy, and the hard shell will help distribute more energy throughout a greater volume of foam.
