(I don't know when it will be used. is it Mtk dimensty 9400 or next gen again) I'm more curious about the Exynos 2400 (Xclipse 940/ Rdna 3) soc being better optimized, Samsung temporarily stopped making flagship soc for 1 year. )

mediatek dimensity has been around for some time and the arrival of the latest chip is a good thing, arm gpus are a perfect pair too since apple is copying their design but iPhones are not good since its just optimisation.I might buy the chipset for custom phone because its impressive, the only problem is that i might have to modify the clusters because its useless to have a 1+3 configuration why not 4 and down clock the cpu so i can overclock the gpu at minum 2 ghz if im going to make that without melting the chip , mediatek will be always on the top for me , except custom chipsets that are having a more common sense desgin rather than complicated

And also does it use a good cooling system, also a determining factor too) Mediatek dimensty 9300 uses N4P Tsmc, the same as used for SD 8 Gen 3

So theoretically, they could put 8 x4 cores and play with speed to meet power requirement in software

Running A720 cores as "high-efficiency" cores is an unorthodox method that hasn't seen since the SD 82X days, but at least with 4x A720 at 2.0GHz, it shouldn't be too much of an issue. At least compared to SD 8 Gen 3 with vastly higher clocks (but less giant cores overall)

Now when 8 Gen 3 is official, we can do some comparison to this alleged 9300 configuration.

1x X4 at 3,3 GHz vs 1x X4 at 3,25 GHz If one had some issues, then we can expect it from other too...
3x A720 at 3,2 GHz and 2x A720 at 3 GHz vs 3x X4 at 2,85. I still don't see problems in comparison to concurrent. Fewer cores at lower clocks, but probably with better performance. I think that there are more chances that those A720s could have problems clocked so high than X4s in 9300...
2x A520 at 2,3 GHz vs 4x A720 at 2 GHz I don't see any problems here also. If A720 could be clocked as high as 3,2 and worked normally, then those A720s at only 2 GHz would be cold as ice... I think they will be pretty efficient, especially there are 4 vs 2. And still maintains good performance compared to A520.

All cores are higher on a Snapdragon. People should be more worried about 8 Gen 3...

senja, 27 Oct 2023Where do you read 4x 3+ GHz? It's always been 1x X4 at... moreIndeed; what I meant was the 3 X4 cores won't need to touch its maximum speed of 2.85GHz (hence, low 2GHz-ish, somewhere between 2.0-2.4GHz to be exact), while the 'prime' core should be able to burst past 3GHz most of the time. Pushing those X4 cores with their max speed for a long time can be disastrous for battery life, so yeah they will need an aware CPU governor to manage them

What you can't understand about core speed? You can take same "performance" cores from PC, where they run on 5+ GHz, and put a lot more of them in a server, and run them on lower clocks, and they will be much more efficient...

Anonymous, 26 Oct 2023Depends on how they tune the CPU, from ARM power efficiency... moreInteresting. The alternative is that only A720 cores are delegated for low-power tasks (MediaTek really need to implement Intel's Meteor Lake tactic of putting low-power cores outside regular CPU cluster so that when extreme power saving is needed, all eight mighty cores can be shut down, leaving them with just the low-power cores)

After all, ~60% perf increase AND claim of "50% better power efficiency", the D9300 might end up use the same amount of juice as its predecessor.

Where as A720 is also rather similar to A520 at the lowest end, it doesn't go quite a slow, but its extremely close.
