Most of the Youtube test's shows al longer lasting battery with the Pixel 9 Pro XL than the with Pixel 9 Pro. Your test shows it different!

It would be very nice to also include the idle tests again. If it's very much dependent on signal strength, maybe a faraday cage can be used and 2 test runs can be conducted inside: simulated high signal strength, and simulated low signal strength. And people could also set with a slider how much time they keep their phones idle during a day, and what percentage is roughly high vs low signal strength. Similar to how the current usage ratios can be set. Would be very useful.

Vic, 08 Mar 2024Not everyone use their phones to watch videos or take pictu... moreIdle drain test isn't very easy to do though because a lot of it depends on the cellular network you're connected to and signal strength.

Rule of thumb: If it's Exynos based modem, bad drain

Not everyone use their phones to watch videos or take pictures for hours, but everyone, irrespective of their wish, have to use their phones in idle mode. Thus, missing idle drain test is a big mistake GSM arena made.

Your previous "endurance rating was way better mectric because it gave a more accurate picture as it took standby time into consideration . The new score is not one but representative of real world usage as most of users have varied uses , some need standby time, some charging speeds , some web browsing , some calls, some video playback etc.
If you will continue to stick with the current ratings, Also factor in the charging time into the equation because that makes a huge difference in perceived battery life

Clodus, 06 Dec 2023In my opinion the battery test 2.0 is still not accurate. ... moreYou're absolutely right, thats my main issue with every battery "test".
They take the phone inside with wifi, the battery life is 7 - 8 hours SOT.
When buy and actually use the phone outside on celluar , battery life is suddenly 4 hours SOT, and seems that no reviewer cares

AnonD-1121190, 08 Nov 2023Nowadays all smartphones has very similar battery life.. Wrong. Google much worse that other phone battery lives.

How do I compare new active use score to and older phone endurance rating???

If I am thinking about upgrading to a newer phone how can I see if there's a battery improvement over my old phone? That may be part of the decision if I upgrade or not.

In my opinion the battery test 2.0 is still not accurate.
Please add internet test with phone DATA turned on. A lot of phones battery life declines significantly when phone data is used.

                    Please
                    add youtube test using DATA.
                    add browser test using DATA.
This will be a more realistic real world scenario, as some cellphones really have poor battery life when data is turned on.

How can we know the endurance rating? For some it's important.

That makes no sense! My S23U loses battery mostely when using it as a phone. Samsung need to do better on battery

taghack, 08 Nov 2023On the subject of idle testing: Throughout the years of ... moreI mean, surely you must know that the web browsing and video streaming battery ratings you provide are viewed as just an approximation and not taken by your readers as absolute figures that would exactly be the same with their own usage. So, you could just carry on testing the idle time like you always have in the past to give your readers the same idea of a phone's approximate standby endurance as well.

I respect that it's your website, your rules. But if you'd rather not do it anymore because it's very inconvenient and time consuming, then just say that and not spin it it like the way Apple tried to justify removing the charging brick by marketing it "for environmental reasons".

Adding standby time into the charts will make a more accurate battery test.
I have the Google pixel 7 and the battery life is terrible, reviews noted that pixel 8 performs nearly the same. But the battery 2.0 test does not show this weakness of google pixel which may give an unrealistic comparisson to real world use.

Fa14bi, 10 Nov 2023Well, it lacks a key thing now, standby time.Exactly. They should add one column "standby", then it would make sense. Now it is wrong.

Battery tests are now useless because a year from the phone release, the battery life will be way less. Everyone has a powerbank because heavy use, the phone will die no matter which one it is.

Missing GPS and music streaming tests. I do rely a LOT on my phone outdoors, walking, driving, and on trains/subways, mostly with Bluetooth connected. Sometimes free roaming / wifi services are available, most of the time it's 4G.
