Weekly poll: can Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro's powerful chipset and cameras tempt you into buying one?

05 November 2023
These are the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones and the Leica cameras have seen major improvements. Plus, Xiaomi is ditching MIUI in favor of the new HyperOS.

I'll wait for the Ultra. The Omnivision isn't really my choice of sensors. I do think Xiaomi should have the Pro's all curve display on the Ultra too. Better than the curves that Samsung have done to the industry IMO.

Same as their default file, music and video apps. Their native apps have ads. It's just not shown to users intentionally.

Expect the price to be the same as the Xiaomi 14 as last year Oneplus was cheaper than Xiaomi in China. They also state they've been given Oppo's top Find algorithm this time. This is unusual. Most brands cut deliberately cut the alorith for the cheaper models. For example, Xiaomi and Huawei always do this. They cut the algorithm even when the sensor and processor is the same for the lower end models. It's a really promising phone this year.

no it wont.. its still 12mp cams an still no 8k 30 ..... xiaomi has gone backwards since the 10 series. its not 2007 anymore 12mp is old news. the 10 series 25/27mp cams had far superior DETAIL in them than any phone out today. Mi note 10 had 20mp big ultrawide with amazing detail... went from that to 13 to 12 an now 8mp being considered ''flagship'' went from 2 zoom lens to 1 an they went from 12mp to 8mp ...went from 27mp main to 13 to 12.5 to 12mp. smooth buttery an wonderful looking 8k30 to choppy an sluggish 8k 24. 108mp cams on mid range with better detailed photo's to 50mp cams on ''flagships'' with far less detail.... But hey its got a big ''sensor'' in it so you can see shadows in that bush over to the right 2 shades brighter!!! nothing hdr doesnt already do

But most of the time, Xiaomi has been the better option, especially with their Redmi K series. If OnePlus 12 gets a price tag between 14 and 14 Pro alongside those features we know about it, it will definitely be my choice. A couple of weeks to find out, I guess...

Xiaomi and other Chinese flagships are still selling because some people prefer 'break the mold' choices. The same reason why we dont see only Toyotas on the road despite having best reliability and resale value.

Mills, 05 Nov 2023Buy an adapter.stop, we must realise he ain't the market audience

First of all, international prices will be much higher.
The Pro will usually be in the flagship price segment, in the $1000 ballpark. At that price, nobody will want to buy a Xiaomi brand as you can just get a flagship Samsung or Apple for the money.

The regular non pro will be more interesting as it will usually in the price segment of premium mid-range, while you're getting flagship chipset. Then it boils down to the software as a dealbreaker. For some like me, MiUI is a dealbreaker, regardless of the new name.

In the end, most people will simply wait for the 14T next year, as that pricing will be more aggressive towards the mid-range.

It seems like these phones don't have an IR blaster. This is sad. Xiaomi was one of the only companies still providing an IR blaster on their devices. It is such a convenient feature to have.

Never. There are a few things I would never compromise on, no matter what I'm getting for it in compensation. In this case, the design and the UI.

Many phone manufacturers still don't get what a good phone design means. They simply think that bigger camera bumps are better no matter how unsymmetrical they are, or the more your flashy your phone the better it is. Only a few companies have gotten this right. Namely, Apple (iPhones have had amazing design since the beginning), Google (same as iPhones, Pixels look beautiful), Samsung (they finally got the hang of it recently again after the S10. S23 is finally a Samsung I'd consider holding). There are some niche phones too such as the Nothing Phone and Asus Zenfone, but that's about it.

Then there's the UI. iOS is unbeatable in my opinion, next comes the Pixel's stock android, and of course Samsung with their One UI 6. A UI should feel natural, and at the same time reassuring. There shouldn't be any jankiness. Some phones companies do win in this category such as OnePlus and Motorola but once again, there designs are so bad the phones are not even worth considering.

I will never ever buy a phone with flat sides again. Xiaomi should stop emulating Apple with their design and OS and be unique once and for all.
