DCG here means a new readout format supported by Snapdragon 8 gen 3's ISP.
DCG itself is an old technology that existed for quite a few years now.

Is LYT-900 actually an upgrade or just a rebranded IMX989?

It can take a mid-range or even an outdated sensor and still take a competitive picture with it.

Of course, it would be much better if Google took the hardware seriously in their flagships and coupled that algorithm with a top of the line, 1"-type sensor and top quality optics.

As a side note, while we are on processing algorithms. It would also be interesting if Microsoft released a "Lumia Camera" app to Google Play with Nokia's processing algorithms. Nokia did an excellent job with noise handling in those.

The only disappointment is how easy the display scratches, mine has a ton of micro scratches and a few deeper ones. And I never dropped it or put it in my pocket with other things.

Dimtons, 02 Nov 2023Why don't apple use the latest hardware like the chine... moreBecause apple always aim for the lowest HW they can sell in the given price ranges. This is why they have the highest profit margins in the smartphone industry and why investors love them, for their profitability.

More and better HW costs more and would decrease their profit margins. This would upset shareholders. Upping the price even more, to keep the profit margin and the latest and greatest camera HW etc., would upset buyers and sales would fall and again, this would upset shareholders.

"Elons Musk" probably threw everyone for a loop and now they dont want to compete, now its all to fighting. Sure aint good for the business... mhm, is there any safe way to grab things from China, any decent stores, I think I might have bought my 11 ultra off of amazon, even, which just makes it even weirder... seeing that the US hates china, literally :p and i still think jesus bezos is stuck on planet earth within the US. Heck, even the hm, Oppo "Find" series is usually pretty good, some caveats... out of the three, the Ultra would be my first pick, its the only phone thats worked well for me... that and maybe Samsung Galaxy Note 2, back when they could make phones or whatever :p anyway, peace out, lets hope for more globally retrievable phones next year ;) less pampering from the cough biggest country, moneywise :')

In 2025, these will be using OV50K (type 1.0) because it will be cheaper.

Apple has done a good job keeping up with Xiaomi and Oppo with the iPhone 15 Pro, but I will still say that Find X6 Pro, OnePlus Open and Xiaomi 13 Ultra still have one of the best camera systems you can find on a smartphone.

That is 3 times the replacement cost of an imx800 for example on the Xiaomi 13 (prices from Xiaomi's official China website). The replacement cost of all 3 rear cameras on the Xiaomi 13 is half the cost of just one imx989 sensor on Xiaomi's website (and the LYT 900 is an upgraded version of the imx989) Manufacturers this year will probably only offer this on their top model.

Yes in the past midrangers like the Mi note 10 pro an many Honor and Huawei phones in particular had much more focus on cameras than current midrangers. At that time Huawei had no restrictions and led the trends with the focus on cameras. Xiaomi and other brands followed. However, those midrangers were also more expensive than current day midrangers. Nowadays manufacturers simply don't want to give the best camera setups to midrangers. Even, these days when they give good main sensors on midrangers they don't give the same level of optimisation. For example sometimes they even cut EIS on 4k video. I've heard though that next year midrangers will start to offer telephoto cameras again like they did in the good old days when cameras were more of a priority. This may be a trend in 2024. As for the LYT-900 though I think that's nearly impossible to come on a midranger. It would bring the price too high and also would make people who bought flagship phones with much weaker sensors (e.g. the Xiaomi 14 pro with the customised omnivision OV50H) a little angry.
