"The sensor will introduce a new DCG (Dual Conversion Gain) technology, which probably refers to the new stacked design that Sony has been pushing for the past year"

No, this is referring to a sensor design that features both low gain and high gain readout modes, and can switch between the two depending on how high the ISO is. With that said, whether this new LYT900 is capable of reading out pixels in both modes *at the same time* and combining the outputs to form a single HDR image (what Omnivision refers to as DCG HDR, or Samsung as Smart ISO Pro) remains to be seen.

On Apple or Samsung, that's what you will get...Pixel are a little better
With Zeiss on Vivo or Leica on Xiaomi, photos are still photos...

The next step will be : put cheap sensors and let generative AI does the job instead ?
      DXO will probably love this!

Dimtons, 02 Nov 2023Why don't apple use the latest hardware like the chine... morebecause Apple would have nothing to offer otherwise, take for example IOS updates, even a decade after androids, apple are still releasing rather basic features that are not new to the world.
Apple calls them major updates when you can customise your lock screen LOL same with their hardware, the COULD afford to build the best phone on the market, but instead they will drag out the design for 6 years, and incrementally update minor features at a snails pace and still keep people coming back

Anonymous, 02 Nov 2023Iphone 15 is Exmor T. The latest tech. Also, apple kno... moreLol okay

justasmile, 02 Nov 2023But will it go global?Should go global. Atleast One Plus 12/Xiaomi 14 Pro/Xiaomi 14 Ultra will. So keep fingers crossed and wait for these devices.

Exmor T is thicker than Exmor RS.

Google, Apple and Samsung will come with smaller 1/1.23 sensor and beat all these phones. Pixel King of photo iphone king of video or maybe pixel can equal it and samsung pro and zoom king. These 3 will be always owns too 3 place for camera until others realize their already had power full hardware than these 3 but very weak software

also keep in mind apple is sold worldwide , chinese phones not so much

                                    Dual layer yes.

Sony Semicon is modifying imx989 to support some features of 8g3.

rizki1, 02 Nov 2023when will this be installed for the mid range?Never. It would take years and by then it'll be past it's lifespan anyway. Too expensive for the midrange

"The sensor will introduce a new DCG (Dual Conversion Gain) technology, which probably refers to the new stacked design that Sony has been pushing for the past year."

Actually the 2-Layer Transistor Pixel aensor is quite different. That separates photodiodes and pixel transistors on different substrate layers, as opposed to the conventional style of having the two on the very same substrate.

This has dual gain, much like an Arri Alexa Sensor. Both Sony and Samsung have also presented papers for triple gain sensors too. The Dual Conversion Gain Sensor merges dual exposures, one exposing for highlights and one for the shadows, merging both, to create an image with greater dynamic range than both.

Theoretically, a sensor merging both these technologies should have lot more dynamic range and better lownlight abilities than both of them. But it may be thicker and have way more complex circuitry.
