The Huawei P70 will reportedly use an in-house image sensor for its cameras

Previously, Huawei used Sony-made sensors, but there's talk that it hasn't renewed its contract.

Not sure where the notion that Huawei doesn't have a semiconductor division is coming from.

HiSilicon is Huawei and handles all of its major designs across many industries.

As for re-branding or not, I have no idea.

    Huawei phones are great. I have a midranger (Huawei Nova 9) from two years ago and it still looks and feels better than most flagships. Harmony OS 4 (which I don't have) seems to be the best OS out there. My only issues: lack of GMS is a serious. More than a year later and I am still not used to it. I have access to most apps but still... However, the DEALBREAKERS are: 1. Huawei does not allow devices outside China to access Harmony OS, some form of apartheid. One has to go through hoops worse than trying to access GMS to access harmony. I am still not successful. 2. The update cycle is ridiculous. I am on EMUI 12.01 for almost a year now. That's the last update I ever had. These two are 100% within Huawei's control but they have opted to handle it as they have. I hope these two change. I feel so strongly about these two that I may hold off getting another Huawei device for some time, that said, Huwaei devices are absolutely fantastic.

I am not a hater of this brand. But I would not say my P30 Pro was the best from 2019. They did become better of course, but not a leader as somebody said.

            Mobilemaster, 07 Nov 2023You can not take DXOMark seriously in my opinion.Exclude DxO, the camera are still that good. For a smartphone camera division, Huawei are one of the top. GSMarena review various type of phones, & their opinion are usually unbiased.

                  Huawei was already leading Apple in in-house design before US attacked and thanks to those attacks Huawei is going to have more in-house components than Apple

                    It apparently doubles signal levels, meaning the sensitivity should also double. But those figured are not probably as good as advertised. Also, since the size of the sensor still remains tiny, and lens technology hasn't improved in proportion, images from smarty seen on large screen still lok very watercolour like and don't have great colour fidelity either.
