Anonymous, 06 Nov 2023No? How about the imx789y used by P60 Pro?
My bad.
Seems like Sony granted license to supply Huawei since 2020 (its banned before).
But now Sony completely halts its bussiness with Huawei (US-China political) recently, leave Huawei no choice but to get from others.

TheLastOracle, 06 Nov 2023I think these sanctions are getting ludicrous.
The silve... moreEnvy much?
Sony dual layer tech increases light sensitivity by 50%.
Without penalties of using non-RGB CFAs.
Also it has far more QE than Exmor RS.
Exmor T of 1/2" will beat Exmor RS 1/1.56".
Canon, Samsung and Omnivision are far below Sony.
But you believe Huawei, a client, would make something beyond what Sony Semicon can?
🤣🤣🤣 Fanboys are delusional here.
It will be a omnivision desguised as in-house tech.

The silver lining may be that it will finally start breaking the mould of image sensor tech having almost Plateaud in the last few years. Dual layer sensors don't really seem to be doing much. Maybe due to lower charge or or tiny lens limitations or something else. Also, Hiawei is the absolute market leader in imaging, so its sensor will actually help innovate vastly and lead the market towards a new era of imaging. Looking forward to Huawei finally making a camera that rivals Mirrorless/DSLR/ILC quality. In a smartphone form factor.

And what a painful read that post that you just replied to. ☠️😬

Of course you can share images easily on any social media and you don't need to use Google Maps to tag anything (the location saved in the image file doesn't have anything to do with Google Maps anyway, it's just a GPS position, and tagging a location manually doesn't need the presence of a map). Google Maps works anyway on any Huawei device without GBox or GSpace, what does not work is to login into your Google account (that works only if you are using GBox or some other workaround).
Track online orders? That shows the name of the place where your package is, not a map (at least for the providers I use).
I have used Huawei phones since the restrictions are on, there are some issues to solve, but far smaller issues than most people imagine. And I bought a new P60 Pro, so I guess those restrictions were not a big enough issue for me.

yalim, 06 Nov 2023you can take great pictures but, you cannot share them on s... moreI can run Play Store apps WITHOUT Gbox. Only ones that takes time to wean off from are Gmail and Youtube. But Gmail works with Huawei's built-in email and Youtube has superior third party apps.
If you really are an Android user, don't think like a walled-garden iphone user lol.

This is good news.
For sure they developed a in-house image sensor with better technology than sony to ditch them.
There is need much more competition in smartphone camera sensors.
Sony Sensors are the most responsable for the poor quality of smartphones in the last decades.
You only have very slight improvement on those sensors every 5 years or so.
Samsung started with in-house sensors ,and now samsung s23 ultra and pixel 8 pro are two of the most adorable and selling smartphones.

yalim, 06 Nov 2023you can take great pictures but, you cannot share them on s... moreI'm on my second Huawei device since the ban and from personal experience can say this is vastly exaggerated. Without resorting to gbox or gspace have been using most apps that I used before and haven't had a problem with location tagging on social media(not that you should do that imo), or installing delivery apps and tracking them, or my banking app, or anything else for that matter. Security updates also come in regularly on my current phone. My older one got updated to emui 12, probably not getting 13. Current one got 13. Gmaps is the only app that has become fidgety lately, though when restarted it usually works but getting by with petal maps and waze just as well for my needs.
It could be different in different regions so your milage may vary but certainly not nearly as bad.
