If I'm buying the latest generation gadget of some sort, I don't want to look like I have a 1-2 generation old one. Simple as that.

Hopefully the screen stays curved. I really love the screen and shape of the S23 ultra. My favourite phone so far.

I don't care if less important things are "stagnant". The visual appearance of a smartphone is less important. (Even the fact that cameras still protrude from the back is not a visual thing - it's about comfort and practicality.) A smartphone is but a tool. You wouldn't care if you see two same-looking hammers, would you?

I still don't understand the fragile camera bumps after s22 series. It's a huge design flaw that extremely easily falls off.
