I Imagine this to feel horrible, like those cheap matte plastic screen protectors from the early 2010s people would put on their iPhone 4 or Galaxy S3.

So nope, it is not the same thing, not even close.
I would like to see this type of screens getting more evolved and in more deviced, i'd for sure buy a mokia device with this screen.

I stopped reading @ "fingerprint scanner on the side". I would rather have a front scanner even if it is going to compromise the size of the phone.

Mills, 26 Nov 20233.5mm jack and microSDXC? GSMArena commenters jump for joy ... morethat's where the a52s comes in. although it's a 2 year old device, but it fits with your requirements. you want amoled 120hz, snapdragon 778g, 3.5mm, and sd slot.
not sure about a phone with dimensity 1080, a34 is the closest model to choose. only missing is 3.5mm jack.
keep in mind it ain't that cheap.

That camera island looks something Xiaomi made few years ago. Like Xiaomi 12 that had 1 large camera at top and then 2 small circles under it on the left side while the camera island was not painted or was painted full.
I have seen people like that camera design so if they now dont like it cause it's made by TCL then it be weird

No good device
Read on another site that tcl cust support have said this uses flicker/pwm to control brightness so it isnt good for eye strain or extra sensitive persons
All this has is in built matt protector on top of screen. Any1 can buy matte protector and put on their phone themselves for cheap price & it would be same thing lol

But, if you make the phone have a normal display, (AM)OLED, 120hz, Dimensity 7050/SnapDragon 778G, 650 nits (typical), and a better looking camera island, this phone is good for some.
