29 November 2023
It could be a f/1.6-f/4.0 solution.

Remember Nothing Huawei Xiaomi can't do software

Anonymous, 29 Nov 2023No you wouldn't, stop being too dramatic. Not as dramatic as Samsung's horrendous image processing during the day :)

N... moreI should've worded my comment better, yes dual aperture is still "variable" because it has two different aperture settings to choose from. Although its usefulness is somewhat limited as in darker scenes F4 is simply way too dim and you might want multiple other steps in between.

Having 3 steps is somewhat ok for a smartphone camera, but a 10-step aperture is very granular and should prove to be quite useful especially when the aperture starts from as wide as F1.6 (Which is roughly equivalent to F2.8 on APS-C, or F4.2 on FF).

        No matter if 2, 4, 10 or 50 stages.
" true variable" does not exist.

I've had two Xiaomis and while I liked MIUI's Apple-like look and feel, it was a bit too buggy for me, and the camera photos were never well-balanced. Like most Chinese brands, they look great on paper, but in practice kind of blow it. For a bit more I'd prefer to stick with Samsung. And now I have discovered the Pixel, which takes the best shots for me.

Variable aperture still hard to find on all brands. Despite them having it in the past lol.

You mean consistently comically oversharpened to the point that they don't even look like photos lol. I'll take any Xiaomi upper-midrange/flagship over the S23 Ultra if we are solely talking about the camera and image quality.

"The Xiaomi 14 and 14 Pro have a two-step lens that can toggle between f/1.4 and f/4.0"

No, Those two already have had a true variable aperture with 1024 micro-adjustment steps and (according to the official poster) provided 10 different aperture settings to the users.

article has misinfo. mi 14 pro has 1024-step variable aperture

Who cares? Ultra isn't globally available, still! Even though they announced it 4 times this year alone.

And there's no stabilization issues whatsoever, but sure keep coming up with imaginary cons. And yeah you can stay with your Samsung gimmicks and overrated cameras, I'm pretty sure nobody cares.

It is NOT two step like the article states.

I'll stay with my S23 Ultra. Nothing beats the consistencu and overall package of Samsung and Apple flagships.

Xiaomi has horrible stabilization with some lenses, red skin, subpar microphones. And they cost the same or even more than a flagship Samsung.

For that money I'd rather have a jack of all trades, rather than a master of one and loser of some.

It would be nice if it could do a 10-step variable aperture like Huawei's.

By variable I hope they mean like the Huawei p60 where it's a dial you can tune exactly how you want. Not like the other xiaomi that are 2 step.
