Who would have ever thought otherwise? Oh yeah, those people. While the rest of us already knew apple can't make their own, other than the OS. Everything else is someone else's hardware.

If Apple cant by the companies that have the technology and patents then they cant call it as there own so they cant build it on there own too. As Apple dont invent anything cause there innovation is to buy others inventions and then use them

Qualcomm, Samsung, Huawei, Ericsson and Nokia own more than 50% of all 5G patents in the world. Apple must pay them royalties or it's very difficult to develop their own 5G modem. So they cancelled it altogether.

if that were they case, they would be covered under FRAND
at which point they'd only have to pay a Fair, Reasonable, And Non-Discriminatory rate like everyone else covered under FRAND terms

Main reason might be due yo lot of patents held up by Qualcomm/Broadcom and other companies and Apple need to invent something by avoiding those patents which will require bending physics.
