America failed to copyright 5g modem ,that's the title of this story.
Remember when apple made the iPhone? = they steal:
    - Xerox software
    - Sony design
    - "inspired" by Sony using their own charger 5 pin than lightning
    - stealing Nokia patents and now Qualcomm
And funny enough they are still just a design company, apple don't build their own parts!

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2023Beginning of end of AppleYou really don't know Apple's entire history do you? There was an Apple well before iPhone and the company has been on the brink several times before. If anything, Apple is in the strongest position they've ever been in.

Anonymous, 30 Nov 2023Didn't know making a modem was this hard. Both Intel a... moreThe main problem is licensing the tech or design, they can just make one advanced enough based on modern design but that would requires them to pay the license fee, in this case qualcom.

Say, company B wants to make a car but company A is already patented the "round" wheel so that any company who wanted to make a car would have to pay a license for that round wheel. If they don't want to pay they'll have to come up with their own wheel design, hexagonal, square etc but those design are inefficient so might as well just buy round wheel from company A.

Apple did not want this so they decided to make their own modem from the scratch, which they failed and so they might as well just extend their modem deal with qualcomm.

Well, I guess Intel had the last laugh.

Didn't know making a modem was this hard. Both Intel and Apple, 2 of the biggest tech companies on earth, failed miserably at this.

Still, don't know why they don't source their modems from MediaTek or Samsung if they don't like Qualcomm so much. I know Huawei and ZTE are out of the question.

They previously sourced alternatively from Intel, and those were very bad modems. Something smells fishy.

It doesn't really make sense - surely Apple could stop buying Qualcomm 5G modems and use their own (if and when they're ready), while paying a licence fee for the other patents. Surely the fee negotiated would be far lower than the price of QC modems. At the same time it would allow Apple to integrate their own modems into their SoC, making them more power efficiency, while giving Apple full contact of their hardware components, which is what they want. The external modems are currently Apple's Achilles heel for battery endurance.

So they gonna jack up their overpriced apple products even more now to compensate?

With Qualcomm's patents, is there still room for Apple's modem to develop, as well as with Google Tensor, up to the third generation it seems like it's still problematic, even though it's worth waiting after switching to TSMC, but when switching to TSMC it's still problematic, will Google kill it?
