Most androids have Google Messages preinstalled and some even as default. And it constantly nags users about turning on RCS, most have it on without ever realizing or using it. Also I heard the newer update enabled it without any prompt as well (I wouldn't know I'm using SMS Organizer). So this number is quite bloated if you ask me.

7 new useless features. I don't understand this constant need for validation. A message is message if you want to have communication that expresses how/who you are. Have a proper one to one voice/sign/video call or better a face-to-face conversation.

Most of these "features" are gimmicks. This smells of Google trying to push useless features on us while ignoring what people actually want.
Apple makes sure to give their customers useful features so that they stay on iOS.

If you the message has single tick then it means message has been sent and not delivered
And you can immediately send that message as a SMS instead of RCS

RCS has single tick (sent but not delivered)
Double tick but light (sent and delivered but person has not read the message)
Double tick with bold colour (sent delivered and the person has read the message)

Seriously, what part of new standard protocol don't you not understand? You can continue under a rock ignoring it or start using it as all new Android devices aside from China now have RCS on by default.

The reason nobody is fussing about this outside the US is that this issue has been solved many years ago by the likes of Whatsapp/Wechat/Telegram/Line, etc. There are even many carriers that used to support RCS dropped it years ago as they didn't see the point of it anymore. But lo and behold, Google, a company that has failed numerous times in making their own chat platform, decided to put their proprietary stuff on it and then demand others to support it. Really nefarious imo.

I turned RCS off as I was spammed by companies sending messages constantly.
I cannot turn the notifications off as banking sms are very important.
This is another way to make business and people siding with any corporations should be wary about it.

What if you send RCS but receiver has no internet? You will not even know that receiver didn't get text.
SMS are far superior to RCS because you know receiver got the text.

whatsapp with 2.7 billion monthly active users is by far the most popular messaging app on the planet. so,it can easily be recommended as the mainstream messaging app. no need to use OS or operator restricted or limited messaging apps like imessage. it is definitely useless to chat with non-apple devices.
