Honor Magic 5 12GB show average 6GB usage. 8 GB is not sufficient in long term. Every Android update may add more memory requirements.

I am on a PC with 8GB RAM, using windows 11 for office usage running MS Office package and background apps with lite browsing.
I still have about 1GB of ram available. What am I missing here!

Vram is most useless marketing strategy this days
It doesn't effect on keeping in background app but it do kill your app try it which phone have less then 6 GB ram
Sad part is BBK selling it that much ram that much bla bla bla
80% of games doesn't even know about when their game is lag they complain that I have only 4-6 GB of ram but actually their CPU is limiting they don't know that todays games take CPU power and yeah 8gb of ram is should be lowest in 2024
Because now days 4-6gb of ram came with entry level CPU
They don't get hand on 8 series SD with 6gb of ram I have ✌🏼😄

This is another example of how detached smartphone enthusiasts are from reality.
Because the reality is that most people don't care. Most people will be fine with 4GB of RAM. Because they're not doing anything on their phones that requires tons of RAM. And unless you use a brand whose Android skin is a heavy consumer of resources (and even Samsung's isn't) most of won't notice a thing in their day-to-day life.
I personally don't care.
I've an S23 with 8GB of RAM and they're never used in their entirety. And when I go back to the S10e (because it's a much better phone in every aspect except battery life and old processor of course), I don't notice any difference in day-to-day usage. And that one has only 6GB.

I don't understand how people complain on laggy phones but for the mayority said 8 GB of Ram is enough, cleary most people know nothing about how technology works.
My phone is 12GB of ram and half of the memory is occupied doing nothing, ready for me to open an app, meaning (for me) at least 12 GB should be the recommended minimum amount. (I'm running Oxygen OS 13.1)

6gb Ram = Basic Phone < 12 years old, > 65 years old
8gb Ram = Non-Gamer, Non-PhotoVideo Editor
12gb++ Ram = Gamer + Editor
but for W11:
8gb Ram = Basic PC < 12 years old, > 65 years old
12-20gb Ram = Non-Gamer, Non-PhotoVideo Editor
20gb++ Ram = Gamer + Editor

For me, the bare minimum is 4 GB RAM for lighter skins Android phones such as my 6-plus-year Sony Xperia XZ Premium, then upper minimum is 6 GB RAM for heavier skins, and the standard today is 8 GB RAM such as my Xperia 1 II, and future proofing option should be 12-16 GB RAM. At least for now though. Time will tell if it needed more later on.

safin asa, 10 Dec 2023For me, the bare minimum for a phone is 6gb. I have 6GB and never had an app reloading, It's more than enough. Last time I had problem with RAM was 7 years ago on a 2GB phone when often background apps were auto-closing due to insufficient RAM.

When voting option was 4-6GB then you cant have much in the statistics to think 6GB be enough. But cause it is with 4 then it limits the vote. If the 8GB vote would of being made as 6-8GB would also be not in favor for voting and then people would vote more for 8-12GB
And then you have your statistics wanted answer. There are still 2023 year flagships with 6GB ram and all of then should last next 4-5 years no problems

Anonymous, 10 Dec 2023That's an extremely niche use case though, as I'm... moreIf it's niche because there's so much RAM that no one needs, think again what is 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 for? 99% of people are enough with SD695 or D1080. Most people just use tiktok, scrolling GSMArena and Instagram right?
