Apple notes that a head-mounted device may have lenses. A user may view images through the lenses from eye boxes. For example, the head-mounted device may have a left display that presents a left image to a left eye box through a left lens and a right display that presents a right image to a right eye box through a right lens.
The lenses of a head-mounted device may include tunable liquid lenses. Each lens may have a lens chamber filled with liquid. The lens chamber may have rigid and/or flexible walls that form optical lens surfaces. Actuators and/or pump and reservoir systems may deform the lens surfaces in response to control signals from a control circuit to tune the lens.

I don't understand the point of this W-shaped variable aperture, wouldn't it make an out-of-focus background look very distorted? Modern camera lenses use rounded aperture blades to create circular bokeh balls at wider aperture settings, Huawei and Xiaomi use the multi-blade aperture design too for a reason.
The liquid lens is interesting indeed, but from what I remember Xiaomi abandoned it due to the need to run complex algorithms to adjust the focus (The OG Mi Mix Fold had Surge C1 chip to handle this, but Fold 2 had a normal plastic lens for a telephoto - you get the idea). Let's see how well Tecno deals with this technical difficulty.

As early as 2016, Apple applied for a patent for a folded telephoto camera lens system that consists of refracting multi-lenses and mirror-style light path folding originals

Anton el papy, 08 Dec 2023nobody said who was first, but since they are apple haters,... moreAsus did it first back in 2013, Huawei (and Oppo to some extent) popularised it in 2019 and since then Samsung has been known for a while for its 10x periscope telephoto lens too.
Many upper middle-range phones from Chinese brands already have had a periscope lens for a few years now, no need for you to make a stupid pro-Apple argument for the sake of making yourself look incredibly foolish and ignorant, unless you're just here to troll everyone (which nobody seems to appreciate or find remotely funny).

There's nothing more certain in life. Death, taxes, and GSM arena's comment section arguing over which brand "invented" a technology. Also, at least one comment about Apple without them even being mentioned in the article :D

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2023Motorola Edge 20 Pro is ultra premium? Ok wise man you win! hehe, the notch came out on a mobile phone in the 2010s, with a Motorola and years later Apple copied it, yes, with clear justification and then everyone followed the notch fashion, then it was taking the charger out of the box and guess what? Hahaha, if Apple decides to remove the charging port tomorrow and they have already mentioned it before, what do you think the other brands are going to do? I leave it to you as homework
