What's with all these chinese phones aimed at poor countries and having MASSIVE camera islands? Are poor people genuinely impressed that their phone is double in thickness?

Nick Tegrataker, 14 Dec 2023You were initially asking a question about who this phone i... moreall phone can cap video recording need admin devs to that

IpsDisplay, 13 Dec 2023Imma go with the reviews from gsmarena and efficiency test ... moreYeah I'm waiting for reviews too, I'm only speculating of course, based on Mediatek's past and this absurd move they made. But the thing about the 5400 mah battery for those phones, I think it's because of BBK, they just made all the flagships with the same battery to reduce cost. They buy more of the same product, get economies of scale and are able to produce stuff for cheaper. I'd say for battery those phones would be far better, SD 8 Gen 3 + more battery is a deadly combo, I'm looking forward to those.

potato4k, 14 Dec 2023Actually, I have to apologize. I thought I was replying to ... moreApology accepted, and it's OK because I definitely see where you are coming from. My comment was never about whether Vivo's decision to omit 4K recording capability from the front camera is justified/non-issue, but rather I was simply trying to resolve your question.

potato4k, 14 Dec 2023Actually, I have to apologize. I thought I was replying to ... moreI could consider a phone with no front camera whatsoever if it had a really awesome main camera. Really weird you to attack this phone that fiercely. Are YOU having an agenda here?

Nick Tegrataker, 14 Dec 2023I literally said it's a "good-to-have" featu... moreActually, I have to apologize. I thought I was replying to another poster. Accept my apology. Not my intention to start calling names, just thought I was replying to another notorious user.

Yes, they might be nice to have. But there are certain specs that are expected on a flagship, whether people use them or not. 4K video recording on any cameras are a feature expected on a flagship. We can talk about 8K being nice to have, but at this price point for this segment, 4K is expected, regardless of the user. The Mate60 series all are capable of those feats.

People buying a BMW won't be maxing out the horsepower of the car, but they expect good engine in there for the price they're paying. Same thing here.

potato4k, 14 Dec 2023Facts are facts. Those two statements don't contradict each other, I don't understand which part of it you're struggling to grasp.

Oh, another "fact" is that I tried to answer your questions with respect, yet instead of being gracious about it, you threw me a middle finger calling me "fanboy". Like give me a break ffs.

Nick Tegrataker, 14 Dec 2023You were initially asking a question about who this phone i... moreFacts are facts. BBK are selling phones with cheap parts at expensive prices, and you're defending them. Just admit it. It's in your own words. LOL. Weird finding these people in forums. As if they're paid by BBK or something.

potato4k, 14 Dec 2023Again, weirdo fanboys trying to justify BBK selling cheap p... moreYou were initially asking a question about who this phone is possibly for, based on the fact that it doesn't support 4K recording on its front camera despite having a great camera setup on the back. My answer refers to the point that very few people actually care about the front camera natively supporting 4K recording due to the reasons I have stated, hence implying that this phone is for people who want a good camera on the back but don't shoot a lot of selfie videos using the default camera app.

Now you're starting to call others names, it definitely makes you look like you're only interested in taking a side rather than having your question answered.

Anonymous, 13 Dec 2023Unless it's really cheap, who cares? Zeis means little... moreWell, the Pixel is now a uther trash since uses "cloud IA", is better a SD Samsung or the iPhone with far better SW.

potato4k, 13 Dec 2023Pretending that a phone at this price is okay to only have ... moreLol Huawei is successful in China because it has good MAIN cameras and people over there are trying to support the company that is facing adversity. Not because of the selfie camera features or whatever.

4K recording on a selfie camera is always a "good-to-have" feature for the sake of it, but in reality, there's only a very small percentage of phone users who care about it because the majority who shoot videos with the selfie cameras are just going to use Instagram or Snapchat anyway (which can only record or upload at sub-FHD resolution).

Anonymous, 13 Dec 2023Unless it's really cheap, who cares? Zeis means little... moreZeiss and its T* logos mean that it uses lens elements with a special anti-reflection coating certified by Zeiss, I don't know much about X100 Pro but X90 Pro+ had one of the most flare-resistant lenses on phone cameras, barely any ghosting or internal reflection showed up even when directly pointing against strong light sources.

"'Ive been burned enough times buying a 'great 'value' Chinese phone"
This is not a "value" phone, it's a full-blown flagship phone meant to compete with iPhone, Galaxy, and flagships from other major Chinese phone manufacturers.

Unless it's really cheap, who cares? Zeis means little more these days than a stamp on random Chinese phones. The hardware looks good on paper, but I've been burned enough times buying a 'great 'value' Chinese phone only to have a subpar experience that never gets better. I'd trust a Pixel 8 Pro or a Samsung far more than this.

potato4k, 13 Dec 2023Pretending that a phone at this price is okay to only have ... moreYou've got tons of second rate materials on Samsung and iPhone too...

X3 and x10 on S23 Ultra are 1/3.94" (in comparisons, ultrawide on budget phones are 1/4").

You've got dated lpddr5 on iPhone 15 Pro, lpddr4x on 15, or slow NVMe (ufs4.0 is about 1.75x faster)

                                  You choose!
A good enough 100mm 1/2" (it's nearly 4 time more light in the sensor than 1/3.94"!) is in my opinion more interessant than a better selfie cam.

Plus Vivo/Zeiss processing is more accurate when displayed on big screen than sharpened pictures from Samsung.

AnonD-1026503, 12 Dec 2023i dont know, maybe people who arent addicted to taking 5000... morePretending that a phone at this price is okay to only have a cheap crappy front facing camera only speaks about you. No wonder even Chinese people prefer iPhones or Huawei. Look at the popular Mate 60 series. Only weird fanboys from developing countries would defend BBK with their second rate components and expensive price.

But not sure. Would certainly look some more what other phones with great cameras (1/1,12 or 1' sensor) and Google Services enabled Android Auto I can find. Wouldn't really consider Samsungs or iPhones though.
Was planning to buy a Pixel 8 Pro actually - if the earlier rumors about main camera upgrade were true. Alas.
