If these rumours are true, then this would be a huge mistake. Three of the major plus points of this phone are the non-punchhole screen and front facing speakers (class leading!), not to mention the outstanding 6000 battery, which regularly gets huge praise from reviewers.
People aren't buying this phone series for a front facing camera, but they are buying it for the three points mentioned above. If ASUS have made these changes then they have just blown some key features which have been their strengths in previous models.
I'm still pinning my hopes on the Zenphone 11 hybrid. I'd take the 5500 battery on that device, but it needs this new super screen and speaker pedigree from the ROG series. I'd happily sacrifice some of the gaming prowess then. My concerns are that all the 8 series will be a step backwards from the ultimate gaming phone to try and attract a wider audience, but letting down the existing users.

Are we sure the front speakers aren't just well-hidden? I sorta like the reduced length, but not at the cost of an unpunched screen, front speakers, and battery size. At least the headphone jack and side port are still there, but it still seems like an overall soul downgrade.

+ Snapdragon 8gen3, IP68, more PRO look, smaller and lighter.
This phone become less ROG and more "standard" flagship.
ROG 9 without 3.5mm Jack and 5x zoom?

What nobody tell you is that all China phone including ROG phone still uses traditional optical fingerprint scanner. If you scan your finger improperly in a dark room not spot on the sensor, u can see a white bright light!!! Only Samsung Ultrasonic fingerprint sensor fixed this ugly issue!! Is a complete deal breaker if u ever use flagship phone!

Famous android brands = New phones + New gaming phones + new chipset (processors) and no games to test its limits and power .. which means useless phones for a price like 1000 dollars and above. .
Refresh rates on phones = it is utterly garbage and nonsense . Complete waste of ideas . Even if u got 20000hz refresh rate screen . On any phone wether an iphone or an android . All it gives u is . Scroll through main menu and apps smoothly ... now if i could watch movies online . Or netflix . Or anime in that same high refresh rates then i would admit that its a technology that has benifits .
Dont be stupid people . Save ur hard earned cash and use it on some device that actually give u benifits and not just hocus pocus and mumbo jumbo shenanigans and lies. Love you all

When IPHONE introduced their new iphone and new chipset. They also introduced games that run on ps5 or pc it also introduced something new that no phone can do ... i would rather spend huge ammount of money on that rather than buying some just a branded phone that releases new chipsets and talk about its power only without making something for it to take advantage of it. Dont waste ur money people . Just wait for it to get better then buy it ... now . For as far as i can see it ... its just another ROG PHONE 5

From my point of view, people want modern looking phone without chin (although that bonus for front camera and speaker), such doing that strategy could close the hole left by zenfone 8 flip for those want bigger zenfone instead.

So seems like the ROG 8 line lost all of it's awesome features such as the OLED mini-screen at the back, Shoulder triggers, front facing speakers, and the large 6,000mAh battery. Now it even has a punched hole cam lol.
For everyone saying RedMagic has bloatwares, you haven't even used the device and just stating false claims. I came from ROG 3 and 5 and then switched to RM7 and now 8SPro. It doesn't have a single ads on it, and is has a super clean and smooth UI as per my usage.
Plus its projection and mapping features for controls are amazing and superb than ROG. As per software updates currently they're giving only 1 major update and 2-3 yrs security updates at least quarterly. They will improve on this through time.

Asus please launched 8D/Pro or ultimate. 8D vanilla can just use the Dimensity 8300 ultra and cost lower around 500-600 Usd. For 8D pro/ultimate can just use Dimensity 9300. Im thinking of getting a good midrange gaming phone. While keeping my k60 ultra as my main phone. The while k60ultra is cheap and good, it hard when the 5g band isn’t available outside of china easily. Not only that, game I’m mostly play(Mobile Legend) never have ultra graphic enabled. Also for the the framerates always limited to 60fps while phone like a infinix has 90fps mode with a Helio G88. When contacting game support, they the always ask to wait cause feature still in works. Wait for a year on k50 pro still no update. Now on k60 ultra, already been few months still nothing. If Asus can launched Rog 8D vanilla with D8300 ultra as it’s currently the best midrange soc.
