18 December 2023
Right now 12MP is the default resolution. Additional changes include the Photo Remaster tool that we recently saw on the Galaxy Book4.

Rex, 18 Dec 2023Still Not In Top 8 Dxomark S24 U🥲Of course it's not there. It's not released yet.

Nick Tegrataker, 19 Dec 2023Can't we just have a type 1 64MP sensor that can outpu... moreYeah, I agree. Seems like a nice sweet spot. So far there seems to be a reluctance to release new larger 64mp sensors for whatever reason. A few years ago Omnivision did release a 1/1.34” one (OV64A) with a pixel size of one micron pixel which at least is significantly bigger than the other 64mp sensors available like IMX786 and imx686. As far as I know though nobody apart from lenovo actually used that OV64A sensor.

"Now Samsung is considering doing the same"

                      Please note the word "now".

If Samsung is actually considering 24 MP only now and have never before done so, then this is a pure marketing-driven decision because they want to look as capable as Apple.
24MP files are twice the size, so they will eat up twice the local memory.
Considering that 99.9% of all pictures taken by smartphones are used on local devices and are being shared through social media (= watched on small-ish screens), 12 MP is plenty of resolution and more than enough.

                        So, they combine a binned 200mp to 48mp and a 12mp photo to 24mp.

Can't we just have a type 1 64MP sensor that can output 16MP binned images and call it a day? It will be still substantially sharper than 12MP photos, there will be more area to wiggle the frame around for EIS during video recording, or you can shoot slightly oversampled 4K video for better per-pixel detail.

We will be having more Sony sensors with the 2-layer transistor design with improved SNR in the next year or two, we no longer need to confine ourselves to a lowly 12MP resolution.

It's time for switching to 3:2-24MP sensors, this is the future

Thank. God. Lol. Hopefully this fixes the sharpness issues on 12MP images

Pretty evident when you look at 🌿🌿🌿🌿, bricks and facial skin.
More you add, " better" texture looks, but at some point it starts to look fake.

[deleted post]😊I usual prefer Samsung among top competitors for this actions they take undermining "who cares, though the outcome, all we need is greatness!"
.... And this is what the market is all about today, Flexibility in change, fast or slow with innovations "don't get me wrong, people will always complain about prices... Usually money for Value matters to consumers but often theories proves getting the best amongst your choices costs more than expected.

Apple do copy, but they are kind of tricky while they do it playing it safe.
