Same goes for Android security updates as most of the times, they fix some major security loopholes. Feture updates are useless if though unless its a major one.

When in reality a majority of updates are either just compatibility with some niche product, or something useless like rounding off the corners of app icons, or "security updates" which are already obsolete when they arrive.
Think about how many times you had a Windows update and thought "oh awesome! A windows update!" It's exactly the same usefulness on Android, but the marketing for it stuck. Particularly when Google sponsored sites like this one are paid to exaggerate the importance of updates.
Don't get me wrong, the Zenfone 10 is 100% a mediocre phone who's only niche is its size, but don't fall for the Google marketing.

Asus and Xiaomi are making it extremely difficult to unlock the bootloaders on their new phones. This forces people that care about updates to buy a new model.
The days of buying a Xiaomi and flashing a custom ROM are just about over. Pixels and OnePlus are about the only ones that allow unlocking bootloaders now, and the Pixels sometimes don't have a large selection of custom ROMs available.

I just expect that if phones cost in the flagship range as 700 euro and up then these need to have the 3-4 OS updates to justify the high price. Based on hardware you get it should not cost so much they ask for there flagships. Like remove charger from the box and lots of things while still ask the top price for it. Middle class Chinese phones offer a lot more then any flagship. Good performance, decent camera, large battery with fast charger that actually can be said as fast charger if you compare to something like Samsung that have 25W charging. Even entry level to budget phones from china you can get 18W or 33W
Phones actually need like 2 OS updates to last for 8 years for you before some apps start to lose the old android version support
My last phone was Redmi note 5 AI and it got only 1 update even tough Xiaomi advertised 2 OS updates for the phone and project triple or something with the SD636. Well Redmi note 5 Pro got 2 OS update as was released with android 8 and then got to 8.1 and then 9 but the European version come out of the box with 8.1 and got only to 9 but then again it didnt stop me using the phone for 5 years no issues to complain about other then that it was slow from the beginning and got slower with time.

Xiaomi has every xiaomi redmi or poco phone to cover but just don't. Poco owners have complained for a whole that after 1 year, you barely get updates.

Hopefully ASUS can reverse their decision about locked bootloader. I don't mind if they do it for ROG Phone to preserve the ROG UI and Game Genie, but Zenfone should let be run free since it has the same vanilla AOSP UI as any Google, Sony, and Motorola phones.

Samsung gets away with overkill specs while Apple does due to their blind loyalists. How quickly they forgot throttlegate, a below the belt move that Apple wouldn't admit except they were caught red handedby reddit.

Only dumb ppl get new phone t... moreI would say only dumb people buy Asus when they pay full premium price that is higher then Samsung and iphone and then only get 2 OS updates and thats it. This 2 OS update is up to 400 euro phones as normal thing. If they ask flagship price then they need to offer flagship specs too and update schedule of 4 years.
Zenfone 10 only good thing is that it has 3.5mm jack. It's not even compact phone if you consider the screen size 5.92 inch while have enough bezels on the sides to be in the body size of standard iphone or standard S class from Samsung and both of them have 6.1 inch screen. Also both of them have long term software updates and S class even have a lot better cameras on the phone then this Zenfone 10 have
The main point to spend over 500 on a phone is to get long term updates as you basically spend more for that alone as that is the flagship experience
Also these phones that pretty much have very light skin over OS should give out updates faster cause they dont have much to optimize with there light skin on top of the OS
Asus basically ask top premium on there product while dont give top premium to the customers.
