I just wish it had come with a 6.4-6.5' display. Noe is too big and especially heavy. Samsung Note 10 was compact and light, a masterpiece of a phone.

Nothing to expect. The same ultra expensive thing without any change for years. Typical Samsung.

DeepIn2U, 03 Jan 2024How can an image be oversharpened? If an object is sharp... moreI can show you the difference myself but you can see for yourself if you use an S series phone just go to camera and then settings, enable raw output for the photos. Then take a photo in pro mode, it is in SDR so don't have a high contrast HDR scene otherwise it'll look bad. Anyways, take the photo, then take another photo in photo mode. You'll see the additional processing and sharpening done by Samsung. You can also just import it to Lightroom for Android and process it yourself, check out what sharpening does or not. Basically, too much sharpening gives it a "deepfried meme" sort of look, everything looks too crisp and even if that were acceptable, worse yet is the haloing. Everything has a sort of halo due to the sharpening. Even worse is the fact that sharpening so much actually highlights whatever flaws were present in the original image, requiring you to denoise the image further, getting rid of more details.

I prefer a fairly soft rendition, so I used to use the "High" softness setting in the camera assistant for my S22U but it's only applicable for the Main cam, the other cams need more sharpening as they suck so I had to go back to "medium" softening. I love the fact that Samsung is giving options, but 2 things.
1.) Don't have the problem in the first place lmao
2.) Give sharpening settings for individual lenses.

Anyways, for further context, the RAW photo is a click from the sensor, generally it is noisy, with some lens distortion and quite soft. That is then sharpened up by manufacturers, noise smoothing and denoising, correct lens distortion, increasing contrast and applying color tweaks such as saturation, color temperature etc.

      An example :
      https://floricolorusa.zendesk.com/hc/article_attachments/115011124228/COMPARE.jpg
Look at her face and her skin, the base photo is the same, you don't get more details but rather you "enhance" or put more focus on the details/edges. That's why sharpening is also called edge enhancement. Look at her hands, the image seems noisier even though the noise is the same, the sharpening just put brought out the noise in the photo. Finally look at her face cover thing, around the edges, look closely and you'll see some "halo" like artifacts. A faint white glow.

Another example of Halos vs no Halo :

      No halo/less haloing
      https://www.dpchallenge.com/tutorial/80/images/frame6.jpg
Open these in a grouped tab in chrome if you're on phone and switch and you'll see the difference, if you don't then idk how else to help you lol

Anyways, the sources of those images :

Front is same of ultra regardless of model, i only use front cam, im going for s24 plus. Exynos has better isp, my s20u exy take better selfie than snap

SmgUk, 03 Jan 2024Google gets Wrecked by Vivo and so will SamsungGoogle doesn't get "wrecked" by Vivo, the difference is only slight and to everyone's preferences. Neither is realistic.

Why they make S plus version better than S normal ? Why not make like my old S20 series. S20 and plus qhd and 12gb ram and S20 ultra the beast.
I Have my old S20 5g and i can t find i decent compact phone to make update.
FHD oled 120hz and 8gb ram some xioami phones had at 200$. THat are specs for mid range.
When you pay that kind of money you don t want to be enough you want future proof.
QHD Screen has better detail in video , graphics games and about the ram i had my s20 with 8gb ram and after i switch for the 5g model with 12gb ram and sometimes i feel the difference.

As a s22 ultra i would say samsung software and gaming optimization is quite good it just they didn't hype marketing it, example like game optimized version on galaxy store compared to other brand that use google play store and don't have specific optimized version. Other thing is the GOS, after gos scandal when you use GOS mode off the temp limit is around 47c and you can lower it with their plugin to 45 or 46 while other brand now keep their temp limit to 43c for gaming. If you want lower temp you can play with gos on as usual and keep the temp on 40/41c

They also have gaming lab to optimized heavy game, now after one ui 6 update on my phone performance feels optimized a bit and maybe this is related to those lab (feature algorithm from s23 ultra). I'm sure samsung will make new gaming optimized feature using AI ala huawei game turbo

Ram usage is stagnant thx to android 14 it cuts the ram background usage like 20-30% so 8gb ram still enough and on the other hand emulator that's ram hungry like yuzu also got optimized a bit, so 8gb is enough coupled with OS Skin optimization

i don't mind same display, the color and etc is still good even compared to new 68 billion display color only lose a bit in color depth
But the display use 2.5d curve instead going full flat seriously samsung from making deeper curve to going back again to 2.5d curve style display

What I am to expect...let's me see...the complete stuff inside the box as I do remember that I had got a lot of stuff inside the box for the flagship phone long time ago...

raditz594, 02 Jan 2024>better features bad I want the best features I can g... moreYou qanr the best features right?

Then STOP complaining and NET with your 💰 dinero!
Put your money where your mouth is, let the company feel the fabric of your fiber!!!

People that talk like this yet not simply ACT usually do NOT have the $$$$ to do what they say!
And when they see what they want too solve their complaints of best features, the VERY first thing they do is complain about the price - which includes top parts bin of hardware, the R&D gone into software or firmware foe these components and the overall finished product or the seucirty updates aplied to the unique UI or the 1st party software and support team and production channel to support parts replacements or the teams of people that DO the repairs or the global 1st or 3rd party authorized repair centres!!

                      In other words:
                      BIG talk is cheap!
Real talk is in action and less words!

                      Example.
I bought the S23 in August 8GB/256GB. It does everything I want works perfect for me.
Pretty close to launch S24+/Ultra get RAM bumps but NOT the S24, not even a storage bump.

My 1 complaint is no 12GB ram in S24; rumored.
It'll launch slightly cheaper here in Canada
What will my S23 be valued at trade in, will it be worth it?
Simple math I will not upgrade unless out of warranty damage OR unless greed or vanity sets in after holding the S24 in hand.

No big talk about lacking best camera or zoom or nonsense without even trying it first hand myself.

I am so gutted that the s24u will be replacing the 10x optical zoom with the 5x module instead, it is so dumb just copying the Fruit blindly. Which genius thought it would be a great idea to abdicate the crown and be a commoner.....seriously Samsung?
They should have just replaced the 3x module instead, as there is not much of a difference using a crop of the 200MP and kept the 10x optical. Makes absolutely no sense that Samsung would give up its throne for long range optical 10x zoom and replaced with 5x digital zoom as it will never beat the quality of the dedicated 10x optical for long range zoom beyond 30x, no matter how much software tweaks you do as law of Physics will apply. You can't make pigs fly. Neither Apple or Google with their 5x zoom can match the 10x Optical zoom for anything beyond 30x and at 50x Samsung will leave the rest eating dust.
And for those Dumbos who makes statement that they compared their pictures taken in store and make foolish comments; when they compared in store using a dated display S23U unit with software that had never been updated for 11 months, with their own updated latest Pixels or Apple; be honest to yourself; it is not the same is it... lol.

Samsung can be a sheep and follows blindly but I will not be upgrading to S24U as it is downgrade no matter how much BS with AI marketing they push like Google.
People would boycott the s24u just like they did with the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro (instead of Watch 5 classic, we now have Watch 6 classic today) and Samsung will eat its humble pie and release the S25U with 10x Optical again, mark my words
