Hopefully this implementation will actually use wifi-direct. Not like nearby share which was using your location plus google cloud so that google can have a copy of what you are sharing with your friends.

How about Google fix their Home so I can add my Chromcast!? It's been a pain in the neck. I wasted enough time with & without their CS. End result is forget about it!

Anonymous, 10 Jan 2024Why can't we just go back to the days of Android Beam?... moreAndroid beam was great
Mi, Oppo and Vivo formed an alliance so that their wifi direct based file sharing system would work just as simple as airdrop, many other brands (Asus, Redmagic, One Plus, Realme, ZTE) added it to their phones as well. Even samsung got on board but never released the software update.
Used it on Oppo, Vivo and Mi phones and it worked great.
Nearby Share, I've used it a few times and it fails a reliable connection often, and if u don't use the settings, either uses mobile data or if your devices are connected to wifi it fails to check the signal strength and makes for slow, failed transfers.
The only reason google is pushing nearby share is to make a case for gapps and to collect data regarding which google account user connects with whom.

Samsung, 10 Jan 2024Your statement is so dumb, you'd rather to write it an... moreMagic eraser and object eraser are both from 2021 released on the pixel 6 series and s21 series.
Big lense as in the sensor size or mp count because again both lg and samsung have both brought out higher mp cams since the 00s, samsung havent really ever had a big sensor size even compared to current flagships, pretty sure huawei have been beating them in that department for years.
Tbh both lg and samsung were leaders in pushing tech, I'd say its even. Both had curved phones before others, again both pushed higher mp cams usually before others, i think ultrasonic fingerprint was samsung 1st but lg was one of about 2 companies to release a modular phone, 1st with QHD screen, maybe 1st for self healing back panel, 1st to have dual cam set ups, 1st to have dolby enabled screen, 1st to have a quad dac phone aswell i think and i i believe brought ois and af to cameras but im not too sure about that. Im sure both lg and samsung released AoD the same year too in like 2015 so the lg g4 and s5 (lg was on an lcd though so wasnt power efficient).
The blurred notifications was an android feature years ago, sure my huawei mate 10 pro and xiaomi redmi note 5 ai dc had that from like 2017 aswell. Customisable lockscreen wasnt a samsung only feature either, again im sure my lg g4 had this ability from 2015 and loads of companies including huawei have had their own version of quick share for about 7 years aswell and all other festures.
Samsung didnt "invent" parts but they definitely manufactured most parts for google. (like in iphones aswell but lg have been manufacturing screens for phones just as long), i mean the pixel 6 series were just galaxy s20 in a different body and they performed awfully and had all the same issues as each other (and had poor wifi connectivity and slower 5g speeds because of the external modem, huawei had already integrated the modem in to their kirin chips, i believe they were the 1st to do that.)

1. Magic eraser were launched in 2023, Samsung Enhance-X with the exact same feature were launched in mid 2022.
Google copied Samsung.
2. Samsung didn't copy LG, because samsung has its big lenses camera design since 2021, also the camera position on its flagship stays the same since 2020.
Your comment is invalid.
3. S10 didnt copy LG. In fact Samsung has far more technological advancement with its punch hole camera + underdisplay fingerprint compared to old tech phone from LG.
Your comment is invalid.
3. Blurry notification panel and control panel applied by samsung since Samsung Experience UI in 2017-2018.
Your comment is invalid.
4. Many "new" google apps/pixel features were actually Samsung features from 2-3 years prior, like bixby vision (Google lens), Clipboard, customizable lockscreen, translate from keyboard, Quick share (Nearby share), Always on Display. Etc.
Your argument is invalid.
5. Google pixel series were made by using more than 51% of spareparts invented and manufactured by Samsung.
Your comment is a joke.

Why can't we just go back to the days of Android Beam? It always worked, was built into AOSP instead of being proprietary Google crap, and was just plain cool. I remember back in 2012 seeing an ad for the Galaxy S3 showing how you should tap the phones together to transfer data (Samsung was using a reskinned version of Android Beam), but Google decided to deprecate the feature for no reason. Now, a decade later, Apple copies it and it's hailed as revolutionary. No wonder us long-term Android supportees are bitter and jaded.

Google Nearby Share is literally part of Android. It works like magic, just like Apple's Airdrop. And you don't even have to install anything.

Scamsung copied magic eraser from google and now they r going to copy googles magic editor from pixel 8 pro to 24ultra. S10 series design was copied from lg v40 without fingerprint sensor. S22 ultra copied lg velvet 1 and velvet 2 which isnt released officially but it has design similar to velvet with all 3 camera is same in size and since then samsung never changed the design becz there is no more lg to copy. And notification panel with background visibilty or transparent notification panel also copied from lg. And more features coming to 24 ultra or copy ui 6.1 is going to be copy of many google features

Reinventing the wheel
Oppo, Vivo, Mi had developed a cross platform sharing system already which worked better than nearby share, many other brands were onboard and even Samsung got onboard but never rolled out the software on their phones.
It worked as good as airdrop
nearby share last I tried requires 2-3 tries and fiddling with settings on both devices for a successful connection.
Google just want to collect data (which google account has interaction with which) and push gapps.
