Hopefully they'll have Linux version as well, ideally Snaps and Flatpak, so it can be easily installed for both Ubuntu and Steam Deck (and others) users.

MakeMotoBetterAgain, 10 Jan 2024i dont trust google in ANYTHING, I just can't.Google: "Does Google sell my information to advertisers? No. We never sell your personal information to anyone."
Also Google: To tailor ads to you, we collect your data. Also, we track your incognito usage. We also NEED to collect your data or you can't use our ecosystem of apps, websites, products and platforms.
Google is so rich that they can do pretty much anything and just pay fines for it. I did some (70% inaccurate) math and Google makes 32384259.2593 per hour. Again, this is likely innacurate so take this a Jupiter amount of sodium

Google is really just all over the place. There's no stability with them.

Funny how there are people who rejects better tech in a tech forum.

"Quick Share to Windows PCs as a preinstalled app in the future."
Windows 11 came with bloatware that either everyone uninstalled or never noticed/noticed and never deleted it. Who the hell wants ClipChamp video editor or Prime Video preinstalled with their new OS?

Nearbyshare is part of google play services built into all Android phones from Android 6 and newer regardless of OEM. No need to even install an extra app. How is that more complicated? LOL

Dimtons, 10 Jan 2024Nearby share is still usless to this day.Either you never use it, or you literally only have a phone as your gadget (no PC, nothing else) and no friends.
Nearby Share is awesome. Transferring files between Android phones, and between Android and Windows PCs become super easy. Too bad most people are too indoctrinated to think it didn't exist (because only Apple has "airdrop"), or only used those unrealiable ad-ridden file sharing apps (share-it, mishare, etc).

Sounds like more a rebranding to reduce confusion from Microsoft Windows' own "nearby sharing" that is completely different.
Android's nearby share is awesome. It works great, even between Android and Windows PC (using the applet from Google). It's reliable as well, and I can almost argue I have less issues with it than Apple's Airdrop. The best part is it works with even old Android phones running Marshmallow and later as Google did push this feature update to those older phones.

It's taking the industry SO long to give us "Bluetooth but doesn't suck". No, I will not sign into your cloud service.

Dimtons, 10 Jan 2024Nearby share is still usless to this day.It was always a bad clone of Samsung's Quick Share. Which is probably why Google finally gave up and admitted once again who's the main ecosystem developer of Android.

They're never going to get this right even though Superbeam pretty much had it on lock in 2014. There is no reason a company as big as Google has dropped the ball on such an essential basic service for so long.
Every zuckup like this makes me wish that Blackberry had won the mobile wars instead of Android.

Didn't Samsung join Chinese companies to make some kind of unified sharing?
