As the "180 megapixel 68mm camera" seems to be a crop from a 180 megapixel 62mm camera, I wondered why they chose 68mm. I think I have an explanation:
The 27mm crop from the 50 megapixel 23mm camera will give you approximately 9.1 megapixels in pixel binning mode at 1x.
A 68mm crop from a 62mm 180 megapixel camera will give you roughly 9 megapixels, too in its 16-1 pixel binning mode.

Apparently, the field of view of the periscope camera is 62mm in its 201 megapixel mode. I have seen a sample image with 62mm f/2.6 and I also just found this interesting post: twitter.com/ML_Autofocus/status/1745435443376841078?t=tXMxUe7P7AYV6PfPNyUDgQ&s=19

According to the translated post, the focal length is 15.38mm. If the pixel size is 0.56 micrometer (no sensor with a smaller pixel size is known as far as I know), then this would indicate that 180 megapixels is related to the 62mm field of view and that the 201 megapixel mode just upscales.

Even if we assume that we have 201 megapixels at 62mm with a smaller pixel size than 0.56 micrometer, then a 68mm crop from a 62mm 201 megapixel photo wouldn't yield 180 megapixels, but 167 megapixels and even a 67.5mm crop from a 62.5mm 201 megapixel photo would still give you only 172 megapixels, although the remaining difference could be maybe due to distortion of the lens.

But I think that it is more likely that the pixel size is 0.56 micrometer.

By the way, the specs on Honor's website indicate that you can take 201 megapixel photos.

Anonymous, 13 Jan 2024I have just seen a YouTube video about the Honor Magic 6 Pr... moreMaybe 68mm is a crop indeed. I have seen a sample image that says "62mm f/2.6" , apparently without simulated background blur. Only the periscope camera has the f-number 2.6. But surprisingly, I have also seen a sample image that says "67mm f/1.4 Iso 100" and I see no simulated background blur, which indicates that the main camera was used despite good light conditions.
I remember that when the Huawei P30 Pro was released, the periscope camera had a field of view of 5x27mm= 135mm in the auto mode of the camera app, but when you chose raw and pro mode, the field of view was 125mm.

They have upped the prices compared to the previous generation in China whereas some of the competition managed to keep the prices the same as the previous generation. I think most people in China were expecting slightly lower pricing, like I said maybe about 400rmb lower

                          - not being able to change the background blur AFTER the shot is taken is infuriating!
                          - no easily usable secure folder or apps (their solutions are just so impractical)
everything else is really great and battery life is the best one out there.

I have just seen a YouTube video about the Honor Magic 6 Pro and surprisingly, the periscope camera seems to have a field of view of 68mm? I thought that 23mmx2.5= 57.5mm. But apparently, they crop the sensor of the main camera, so 1x= 27mm. Then 2.5x27mm=67.5mm
But because 27mm is just a crop, 67.5mm could be also just a crop.
It would be helpful, if someone has full resolution sample images with the exif data.

If it's a 67.5mm 180 megapixel camera instead of 57.5mm 180 megapixel, then the values from my previous post (active sensor area, effective aperture diameter, pixels per angle) are a bit worse than what they are.
