what is the benefit of a periscope for 2.5x zoom? periscope hw is almost twice bigger than a regular zoom lens. besides, there are more sensor size limitations since the sensor is vertical. just being curious.

There's alot to consider IF ppl want a new design, good or stable specs for all-rounding use while having it in an affordable price.

The most important difference is the number of pixels per angle. It should deliver roughly 2.2 times as many pixels per angle as the P30 Pro. Though, the P30 Pro has a better color filter array: Bayer whereas this one has likely Tetra²pixel, which might lead to more artifacts at pixel level, worse sharpness at pixel level and worse color reproduction per object. Though, due to diffraction, the disadvantage is maybe not that big.
It's also not clear whether video zoom will always use pixel binning.
And sensor area isn't really that important (only in very good light conditions the sensor area is important) because only the effective aperture diameter determines how much light from a distant object is captured per exposure time, not the sensor area. The Huawei P30 Pro has 4.25mm, whereas the Magic 6 Pro should have roughly 5.5 - 5.6mm. This leads to roughly 70% more light per exposure time from distant objects, slightly less diffraction-blur per object and also slightly more background blur.

Loo... moreThey are not the "same examples" though, Huawei used bouncing balls to illustrate the capability while Honor used falling Apples. Those slides are both demonstrations of how their phones can capture moving objects well so obviously they tend to look alike.
Besides if they are really the same companies Honor wouldn't have thrown a jab at Mate 60 Pro during the Magic6 announcement, so you're already contradicting yourself there to begin with.

The different naming for basically the same sensor is confusing.
Xiaomi is renaming all omnivision sensors as light hunter. They already have the light hunter 400, 800 and 900 with the light hunter 1,000 to come. Maybe they think light hunter sounds cooler than Omnivision/OV. Anyway, this marketing strategy seems to work. Saw a few comments on Weibo saying they're not going to buy the Xiaomi 14 ultra if it comes with the LYT900. Instead they'll wait for the 15 ultra that comes with a light hunter sensor!
