Looks like they are desperate to sell. I have a ~4 year old normal size S20 5G with 12 GB RAM and a 1 TB SD card (1128 GB total). Recieved a superfast charger and an AKG set of headphones in the package. What do you get now? Next phone will be shipped in a stinky recycled bag. S series should last at least 5 years. But they don't want them to last, they want to sell them every year. Always about $$$ and brainwashing, a.k.a marketing. If they care about the environment so much (no charger and no headphones) they should stop repacking the same phone every year.

Yeah, the last couple of times we talked, it didn't quite work out this well. This was much nicer, thank you!

For the significant number of us, we'd prefer to get any available refinements whenever we could, even if incremental, than to be starved of it till we buy a new phone a couple of years later. Some updates break phones, no doubt; but then, some phones also do have bugs at launch. To me, perfection is an illusion. What matters most to me is that there are conscious efforts to minimise imperfections and that things are corrected promptly at those few times.

Nice having this civil chat with you. To each their own. ✌🏻

To me it's not worth it, if I don't enjoy a phone straight out of the box (never happened before), I'd just return it, or sell it. I tend to buy expensive phones, and my opinion is that the experience has to be perfect, I don't care about the future updates, I live in the present.

DarlingYext, 21 Jan 2024"I dislike it so much when I have to re-enable bluetoo... moreUntil I got Note 10+ 2 years ago, the last time I owned a Samsung phone was in 2015, Galaxy Note 2 was it. So, the only One UI versions I've really used significantly is 4 on the Note 10+. (My Galaxy A53 5G came already upgraded to Android 13 and I barely use it as I'm almost always on the Note 10+. So, I don't know much about One UI 5. Then, just less than 2 weeks ago, I turned it on and found the Android 14 update, which I installed and took only a cursory look at afterwards. I also don't know much about One UI 6 YET aside the airplane mode toggle behaviour I experienced and a very thoughtful camera widget I saw, which definitely isn't on One UI 4.

I had to explain this to make it clear that I don't have much basis for comparison on the One UI front. On the MIUI front, however, I might be able to remember a couple from my time with redmi Note 7, and very brief period with my Mi 11 Lite 5G—which died prematurely:
                    1. MIUI 11 made it possible to schedule dark mode, which I really needed because manually toggling that wasn't convenient.
                    2. Either it or MIUI 12 allowed force enabling of dark mode on apps whose devs were too lazy to add dark mode to. Big yay!
                    3. MIUI 12 brought floating windows which I used A LOT unlike screen splitting I rarely use.
                    4. I spent less than 1 month with MIUI 13, so I don't remember much, but I think it had a useful performance slider in battery settings.

I wouldn't have gotten any of the above features if I hadn't updated. One important thing: updating doesn't necessarily have to be because one is having issues with their current version, it could be because one wants a feature or set of features the new version offers. For example, I'm not having any issue with my Note 10+. NONE. But I still would immediately upgrade to One UI 6 if I could. If not for anything, because of the airplane mode toggle behaviour. I'm for anything that will make my experience/usage better.

Cyberchum, 21 Jan 2024To answer that, I'll quote one of the comments I poste... more"I dislike it so much when I have to re-enable bluetooth and WiFi after toggling on airplane mode. One UI 6 changed all that.."

                      Thank you for your reply!

Either way this just shows why I dislike updates, first of all I never had an issue with mobile data being automatically re-enabled after airplane mode being turned off, yes I don't use WiFi, or at least never my main phone. Anyways, same goes for WiFi on my non main phones. As for Bluetooth, I don't want it to be re-enabled after airplane mode being turned off, as I don't always use it.

Obviously I'm not a user of One UI, but since I don't have issues with my current OS, why would I want updates? Can you give me any other reason than this?

DarlingYext, 21 Jan 2024Okay, so what exactly make software updates so important fo... moreTo answer that, I'll quote one of the comments I posted here:
"I dislike it so much when I have to re-enable bluetooth and WiFi after toggling on airplane mode. One UI 6 changed all that, yet some commenter would now come to tell me how 7 years of software updates wouldn't have been nice for my Galaxy note 10+."

I got to experience that on my Galaxy A53 5G (which is my secondary phone) only because it received the Android 14 update, but I'd have preferred it on my primary phone, the Note 10+.

The two major OSs have matured so much that expecting to see a big change like gingerbread to ICS, or ICS o Jellybean isn't going to happen any time soon. I'm all for the "quality of life" additions they bring.

It has been too reluctant on improving its display or even the OS. No wonder why no body prefers to by Sony phones nowadays. You either go with the trend or just sit behind, laidback and dont improvise yourself so its difficult to sustain the market competition. Critics will always be there. No one is 100% satisfied. And this doesnt/shouldnt stop a manufacture to break the limits and try new things. Saying that people like me are the reason why Sony improve their bug ridden software just shows how Sony just cant improve their Mobile marketshare anymore. Even samsung came out of their TouchWiz and into OneUI. Imagine if s20 series and later would have yet had TouchWiz, Samsung would be dead long long back.

I have had many many devices getting pink/green lines just after the manufacturer decides to do a OS upgrade. Google yourself for the green lines on the OnePlus phones. You are either to ignorant or you choose to stick and be a fan of the manufacturer.

I have a second hand A52s which I am proud of, and I recently received Android 14 on it.
I am not hating on Samsung (actually I like their software updates and UI more than other), I am just saying that people should be aware of how companies think and how they tend to manipulate people through nice marketing strategies.
I am not saying is a lie all those 7 years promise updates (and of course, it's something positive in the end if it happens). I am just saying people should not be so gullible and trust everything. And especially not base their purchases only on some promises from a company or another.
And yes, I am actually thinking of buying an S24 series phone myself (or at least a S23 series one). But I will not do it because of this 7 years software update promise.

Dual periscope cameras like the X7 Ultra, or the more innovative stuff that Tecno is lately doing, which I forgot to mention. Like the retractable lens camera, or the variable aperture liquid lens periscope which they'll probably use on the next Phantom series. But anyways, here I only mentioned stuff regarding the cameras. There are many other innovations that the Chinese companies brought and also Infinix and Tecno which aren't Chinese.
