But, my 3 year old oneplus 9 pro can also do 4k@120fps, also the xiaomi 13 ultra can do 8k video recording using all its cameras, whether its the ultrawide or the 5x telephoto lens

Yeah, because as I said in my previous reply, Xperia 1 II only got the 4K@120fps slow motion recording on main lens (24mm) on its Android 11 OS update, meanwhile Xperia 5 II got the 4K@120fps natively out of the box from Android 10.
And yes, I do use the 1644p@120fps or 4K@120fps recording on my Sony Xperia 1 II a few times, although not too often as I need some perfect scene to record in 4K@120fps.

Sure, initially on release, it only capped at 4K@60fps on Cinema Pro and main lens (24 mm) during its Android 10 original OS, so the full review on 1 II in GSMArena didn't say it, but it eventually got the feature with Android 11 update and there are a lot video on YouTube proves the capabilities of 1 II 4K@120fps recording.

YUKI93, 22 Jan 2024- https://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_1_ii-review-2115p5.p... moreGSMArena doesn't say that the Xperia 1 II can record 4K videos at 120 fps in the review. If I miss it, you can quote it. So the Xperia 5 II can record 1644p videos at 120 fps. It not as demanding as recording 2160p videos at 120 fps, though.

I will take proper 10x zoom over gimmicky 8k video anyday. This whole 8k thing needs to die as it promotes more and more gimmickry. We have lost RGB sensors on phone and gotten inferior 2x2, 3x3 and even 4x4 pixel arrays. 10x zoom was the only reason to buy a galaxy ultra, thanks Samsung you just killed that

4K 120fps has already been a thing since the 2020 Mk2 Xperia. Initially, it can only be done through the CinemaPro app in 21:9 format. Then, Sony developed the Video Pro app for the 2021 Xperia Pro-I that can record 4K 120fps in 16:9 format. After that, Sony integrates that feature into ultrawide and telephoto cameras since the 2022 Mk4 right up to this day.
P.S. If you are willing to get out from the SamApple land and try out other offerings, you won't believe how fierce the competition is.

I still use 1080p. I am an old fashioned man. it saves space and I see no difference in higher resolutions. in addition, i can use a free cloud backup up to 1080p.

Anonymous, 20 Jan 2024In ur dreams tho. But it is true, 1V offers 4K120fps but with HLG (BT2020/2100), and im means flat colored LOGs that bring HDR to another level. Xperia 1V is beast in terms of video recording.

4K/120fps in 18mm/24mm/35mm/50mm/85mm and 170mm. 8K/30fps in 35mm and 50mm.
And that for 650€, so whats the buzz..

Thank you Sammy, you've blown it! You got under my skin when you changed the fantastic Gear S smartphone with inferior products from a functionality point of view but I stuck with you. Got myself the top of the range Note 12.2 pro, again a dissapointment when you stopped the software upgrades after about 5 years. Some loyal customers simply don't see the signs, do they!! Bought a Galaxy Tab S8 ultra. I cringe as I think what dissapointment will await me! In 2023 you were still trading the Note 8 phone in as an eligible device. Locically assessment, in 2024 I can trade my old Note 9 phone in for an S24 Ultra but alas you didn't dissapoint to dissapoint! No, Note 9 is not an eligible device so you've lost a very like in very loyal customer.

Let's just gloss over the fact that Sony Xperia's have been doing that since his many years now?
Iirc, they have been able to record 4k/120 since at least 1 II / 5 II with the SD865!! (Not just the latest Mk V gen. as stated in the article)
And yes 8k might bring a tangible difference in detail/sharpness for some, but in the grand scheme of things, it's still largely not worth it (I wouldn't call it utterly useless though)
