I hate to say it but Motorola released a list of devices like this for android 13. My Moto g62 5g was on the list and after 6 months it never received any update. I sold it and even if the update did happen I am not willing to wait 6 months from announcement. These lists are just to keep the sheep happy. I hope so much I am wrong and that things have changed the Moto edge 40 neo is a great device but without the regular updates timely that is, these announcements are just frustrating and damage Motorola's reputation.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2024Decade ago? S7 series : - android 7 in january 2017, ... moreRemember that Samsung has HUNDREDS of phones to update every year, current phones and older phones. While Sony only had 3 phones per year + the phones from last year. Even with more employees, Samsung still has a much bigger workload than Sony. That's why Sony's current update policy is inexcusable.

                  S7 series :
                  - android 7 in january 2017, android 8 in may 2018

                  S8 series
                  - android 8 in february 2018, android 9 in late february 2019

                  S9 series
                  - android 9 in december 2018 , android 10 late january 2020

Samsung has more employees and resources than other. S8 was current flagship back then and took 5 months.
My old sony 1 year older than s7 series got android 7 faster. It was not current flagship.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2024Samsung used to do same, it was still glorified by ppl here. Yes, Samsung used to do the same and people did "glorify" it. Because when you say "used to" you're talking about over a decade ago with their pre-2013 devices when this was very much common practice and people would be happy if they got 1 upgrade at all...

After that, Samsung has just leaped ahead, first with providing 2 years of support starting with their 2013 models, then 3 starting with their 2019 models, and 4 with their 2022 models. And now more recently 4 up to 7 depending on how expensive your phone is, while the extended support trickles down further to the low-end. And sure, they have sometimes not delivered on their promised support, e.g.: the A13 5G, they promised 2 years of OS upgrades and instead gave 3 (got Android 14 when it was announced with Android 13 as its final OS).

I am on a Edge(2022). I have not even received Android 13. Yet I should somehow believe Motorola when they "officially" say I will at some point be on Android 14??

They mine as well announce they will upgrade me to a personal satellite orbiting in geosynchronous orbit and a free lifetime ride pass on Space X rockets.

If you buy a budget, underpowered car, will you be surprised if it's slow and doesn't accelerate quickly? No.
You need to have more realistic expectations.

Having my Moto 40 edge pro for 789 with all necessary accesories in box.
No S24 or simmiar achieved that honestly.
And like i bought it on a 2 years contract will get a new phone in summer 2025 and sell ym old phone when it will still have decent value.
Having 2 to 3 android updates is moire than enough.
Keeping a phone which enjoys the bricking for 5-7 years like Samsung devices or Apple devices and gets laggy and buggy the older the phone is. No thanks.
And being forced to use some ridicullous AI mEh.
                              Just my two cents.

                                  Better late than never.

I'm using LG G8X with Android 10 and I'm still happy with it. It has flagship parameters in the audio/video parts. The only problem is with the phone itself. Battery drains pretty fast. So I'm planning on buying Motorola Edge 40. How many updates can I expect for this phone?

Got 30 Neo and they kept their promise of two major updates. Cheers Moto! 👏
