Samsung is thinking about making a cheaper Galaxy Z Fold6

This would apparently help it in the Chinese market.

I can't think of any way to make a cheaper horizontal foldable phone other than doubling down on hardware downgrade. I also remembered another rumour about the cheaper Z Fold not having a front screen. At this point, Samsung may as well just straightforwardly copy LG's detachable Dual Screen case solution for the Galaxy S24 series instead.

Unlike the Chinese who have to use off the shelf parts, Samsung makes their own SoC (Exynos), display panel, RAM and NAND chips, and camera modules. So the only thing left is how much margin Samsung is willing to get/cut.

Perfect example is the OnePlus Fold. Even with 2nd and 3rd tier components, they can barely undercut Samsung, not by much. And I'm sure OPPO is taking less margin than Samsung.

Too many stocks left... and they are about to begin the next gen of Fold.

They should definitely think hard about it because nobody is buying their gimmick phone for $2000 besides influencers

justasmile, 24 Jan 2024They would definitely need to. Maybe the specs would be an ... moreprobably an s23fe, same camera setup+exynos 2400 for price of an s24 ultra

if i want a cheaper fold i'll just get the tab s9

Just use the flagship spec and decrease price.

Put an Exynos 2200 in it, 12GB of LPDDR4X of RAM, UFS 3.1, IPX4, dual camera setup (skip the shitty 2MP macro) and MSRP at 899.

They would definitely need to. Maybe the specs would be an Exynos 2400 and probably the same cameras as Z fold 5.

                        So Exynos 1380 again...

                          So z fold FE then?

                            Cheaper is king

Put an exynos in it, make it a bit thinner and lighter, and lower the price to about the same level as an s24 ultra, that would make it a really really attractive offer for a lot of ppl.

'This move would apparently help Samsung gain some more traction with its foldables in the Chinese market, which so far has been dominated by local players.'

Bold of them to think China couldn't undercut them in this aspect lol.
