Canalys: Huawei regains ground in China, but market drops to a new low

2023 saw the lowest sales since 2013.

Apple products are the gold standard, when the market declines only the best will prevail. Unimportant consumers will vote with online comments but the consumers that actually matters will vote with the money.

Zuzuz, 26 Jan 2024Or an over saturation of the market. Phones can be now used... moreMore likely this.

Three year carrier contracts are now more common due to this.

Early signs of economic faltering. That bodes poorly for the world economy.

          Nice one

DarlingYext, 26 Jan 2024Very interesting how Samsung is nowhere to be found in the ... moreSamsung is not popular in China and hasn't been for many years especially since they stopped manufacturing in China. They only have about 1% market share. The only Samsung models that sell reasonably well are their foldables. Apple is the most popular brand in China since the Huawei hardware ban was implemented. In large cities the market share of Apple is incredibly high, especially amongst office workers. Actually, the Google ban made no difference to Huawei but the Hardware restrictions had a huge impact as they were way ahead of Apple before the US restrictions. Transsion doesn't sell in China at all as well

I do agree with this, but I feel like the OnePlus 12 is a great, if not perfect comeback.

"BBK sells their stuff in South East Asia and Europe.."

In Europe, yeah but barely, and their flagships aren't really available, especially not vivo's flagships.

"Realme is literally just cheap put-together devices, and iQOO was gaming I think?"

Exactly, altough at this point iQOO is more like a budget version of vivo, with their phones being almost as good, but with some features missing, and they are cheaper, due to that. To be fair, the iQOO 12 Pro doesn't really miss out on anything..

Samsung sells poorly in China more due to political issues after WWII. Same thing happens to some degree in Japan.

BBK sells their stuff in South East Asia and Europe, so you can see the results over there. I'm not saying their products are bad, but they do lack identity. Even OnePlus had an identity during some time, until they decided to kill it.

As far as I have read into their brands, vivo was supposed to be a Media oriented device, Oppo was camera oriented and OnePlus was a mix of both for geeks. Realme is literally just cheap put-together devices, and iQOO was gaming I think?

                      Samsung??!

Unrelated question but can Huawei phones be used outside China with Google?

Very interesting how Samsung is nowhere to be found in the one market where pretty much every phone is being sold in. Wonder how the global market share would look like if BBK and Transsion would also sell their phones everywhere, and Huawei wouldn't be crippled.

You link to an earlier article and say the new Kirin is clearly slower than the predecessor, but the benchmarks in that article say it has a slightly faster CPU and slightly slower GPU. I would call them on par.

Hm..... I wonder why, oh that's right, global customer who bought their high end devices such as like P50 and P60 series are not getting any latest update, not even a news or what so ever and yet all of the mainland Chinese customer are getting HMOS 4 by now. I really wonder why though.

Samsung's are not sold in China haha
